Folsom School News

March 2021

Greetings Folsom School Community!

Dear Folsom Families,

The number of positive COVID-19 cases are declining nationally and locally since our return to school on January 3, 2021. On a national level, there has been a five-week downward trend in cases. According to the CDC, the current 7-day average in positive COVID-19 cases has declined by nearly 70 percent from the high in January.

As for Atlantic County by the numbers…

Positive cases are down nearly 13 percent from January 1, 2021 to February 21, 2021. Secondly, the volume of COVID-19 tests are down nearly 22 percent during the same time. Lastly, Atlantic County has administered 55,084 total vaccine doses as of February 24th.

I am sure you are hearing of school districts beginning to change their re-opening plans to include additional in-person school days. Folsom is no different. I want to let everyone know that Folsom will also be revisiting our initial re-opening school plan in the upcoming weeks. Information will be shared with all of our families as we move through this process.

In closing, we take great pride in the work that our Folsom staff and families have done since last March. We have maintained our hybrid learning model since September with the help of the entire school-community. I am confident that our next phase in the re-opening plan will further strengthen the learning opportunities for our Folsom Falcons!

Respectfully,

Matthew Mazzoni, Ed.D.

Superintendent

Free Breakfast and Lunch Program

We are excited to announce that ALL students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch through June 2021. We are encouraging ALL students to take advantage of this benefit as this greatly helps our cafeteria.

In addition to these meals being free while they are in school on their hybrid days, we will continue to have meals available for pickup on Wednesdays from 10 am – 2 pm. These meals will also be free for all students. The meals can be picked up outside the Cafeteria, by Door 14. There will be a sign indicating where to wait. We ask that everyone please stay in your car as the meals will be brought out to you. Students that are all remote will be able to pick up 5 breakfasts and 5 lunches each Wednesday. All other students participating in the hybrid option will be able to pick up 3 breakfasts and 3 lunches.

Again, all meals are free to ALL students through June 2021 and we encourage ALL families to take advantage of this benefit.

If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Debbie DeCicco at 609-561-8666 ext 119 or ddecicco@folsomschool.org.

Counselor’s Corner

If you haven't already, please join the Counselor's Corner Google Classroom - where you will find resources to benefit both students and families. The class code is e2qxryb.

Patience has been defined as the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset. This has never been more prevalent for our children as it is now - living in a pandemic in which we have little to no control.

A growing issue among our youth is the need for immediate gratification. We have all become so accustomed to having answers at our fingertips or finding solutions with a click of a button. We have delivery services that will be at our home within an hour and pre-ordered meal kits that cut down our cooking time. We live such fast-paced lives and sometimes get stuck with unrealistic expectations for ourselves and those around us, including our children.
