FROM THE PRINCIPAL...TONY WHITE

One of the magical parts of school is having the opportunity to open fresh each year. Not many other professions and organizations get to do that, but the ones that do have a chance to provide fresh starts and meet the needs of their ever-evolving communities. Norton Creek certainly feels like a new school again! We had 75 new kindergartners join us this year and 47 new Eagles move in. As I say with our Eagles, the "stuff of school" is the same for everyone: We all want to make friends, we all want to be friends, we all want to learn, and we all want to have fun.

Norton Creek must always be mindful of the sense of community we create for our Eagles, staff, and families. Everyone must feel welcome because we give them a warm welcome. We need to celebrate each individual and the vast diversity of our community while also recognizing all that we have in common.

To that end, yesterday was not only our first early release day; it was also our first CommUNITY Day. CommUNITY Days are special days here at school this year in which instead of heading to specials classes, our Eagles do some fun activities in which they come together as a class to create something amazing. Yesterday's "something amazing" was a banner they collaborated on featuring their word for the year. This word is what they believe sums up their class and what it should be. We saw banners with words like: different, teamwork, creativity, and so much more. These banners will be hung for our Eagles to see everyday and are just the start of our celebration of our Norton Creek community.

Shifting gears a bit, as your Eagles leave home each morning, please, do a quick check with them to make sure they have all of their necessary materials for the day. We are seeing a large number of our Eagles forgetting items at home such as glasses, instruments for band/orchestra, math books, Chromebooks, and the like. If anyone can relate to forgetting something, it's me. I know how frustrating it is to forget something and be without it, and I also know how frustrating it is to have to take time out of my day to grab what I forgot because I just couldn't go without it. Thank you so much for helping our Eagles stay on top of their days with this quick check before leaving home!

Have a wonderful Labor Day Weekend, Norton Creek! Enjoy this beautiful weather and time with your favorite people in the world!
