Your second language is best learned between age 2 and puberty. Older learners use different parts of their brain than younger learners. We learn our 1st language and 2nd language the same way a native learner does. older learners can consciously use different learning strategies. It takes 2-3 years to understand and speak it, and 4-10 years to read, write, speak, and listen, academically. The perfect age to learn a new language is 14-15 or 9th grade.
