RSI Counselors' Quarterly Update
Quarter 2- Winter 2019
Canvas Resources
As we approach winter break, we wanted to share a resource that is now available to students and parents through your student's Canvas page.
RSI now has a 5th grade counseling page and a 6th grade counseling page available on Canvas. This will provide students and families access to support in the areas of:
- social emotional learning
- career exploration and planning
- tutoring list and study skills help
- mental health resources (including videos to relax and calm down when feeling strong emotions)
- contact the counselor page where students can request to see us at school
We are excited about this new resource. Please check out our new counseling pages on Canvas and let us know if you have any questions!
Social and Emotional Learning Update
Over the past few weeks, the focus of the Second Step lessons have been emotion regulation and coping strategies to calm down when experiencing strong feelings. These coping strategies include:
1. Taking deep breaths.
2. Counting
3. Using Positive Self Talk
The focus of the Second Step lessons will continue to be emotion regulation at the beginning of the second semester. The next unit of Second Step will focus on problem solving. After every lesson, there is a Homelink that includes discussion points and activities that could be completed at home to continue learning. These Homelinks can now be found on the Counseling Canvas page!
As a reminder, the Social and Emotional curriculum is being taught by our pilot teachers this school year. Next school year, 2020-2021, all HSE students K-8 will have this curriculum.
