January 2021 Update
Safety remains our top priority
Remember to stay safe during the COVID-19 surge by following the three Ws:
- Wear your mask
- Wash your hands
- Watch your distance
To help stop the spread of the virus, stay home when possible, avoid face-to-face gatherings, and do not get together in large groups.
In-person Instruction
Also, if you are thinking of switching your child's learning preference from virtual to in-person, please notify Mrs. Salas at livallejo@dallasisd.org or Principal Rivera at irivera@dallasisd.org. We will then notify your child's teachers of the update.
Grading cycle 2 closes on January 29
Teachers are continuously submitting grades, but if you have an issue with missing assignments, please reach out to the teacher. Thank you!
*** IMPORTANT ATTENDANCE INFORMATION ***
Parents,
Please continue to monitor your child's attendance. In PowerSchool, in the Quick LookUp, on the far right side, you will see two columns that are called Absences & Tardies. For each class period, students are only allowed to have 4 absences per class period for the fall and spring semester. If a student accumulates 5 absences in a class, then they are REQUIRED to attend before/after school tutorials to make up the academic seat time missed due to excessive absences. If they do not do this, they will not receive credit for that class for the fall semester. If they have made the awful number 5, they need to contact SBM Counselor Sylvia Cabrera, the Attendance For Credit Representative for all SBM students, in order to receive their Principal Plan documentation. Mrs. Cabrera's email address is scabrera@dallasisd.org. If you are unable to reach Mrs. Cabrera, you can contact Assistant Principal Mrs. McDonald, the Attendance/Truancy Administrator at yabrown@dallasisd.org.
If your child does not have 5 absences in any class, please encourage them to not accumulate any more absences so that they will not be in danger of losing credit.
>>> If your child is at 5 or more...continue reading. >>>
If the absence is BEFORE October 12, that doesn't count toward the 5. This is because we have received an exemption from DISD due to the technology issues we had at the beginning of the year. But it will be shown on the list of absences as if it counts. So what you need to do is click on the Absence NUMBER that is in blue. That will take you to the actual list of absence days for the class and you can see if any were before October 12.
What you need to do next is pull each absence for a teacher and check to see if a correction is needed. If your child has proof that they did the work for that day, please send a screenshot of the assignment in an email to the teacher and ask them to submit an attendance correction to the attendance office. If your kiddo has an absence for a whole day because they were out for "personal reasons" or "illness", please write a note and send it to Ms. Rodriguez HERE so that she can change the U to an E. This absence WILL still count against their attendance, but at least it takes you out of the Truant category. No one should be in the Truant category. That is a bad place!
The goal is to be sure that our kiddos receive all of the credits for the semester. This semester is over on January 29. Please don't let them get any more absences. Have a good talk with your child about the responsibility that they have to log in and do the work for every single class.
One more thing, those warning letters that are being sent out, please don't be too alarmed. They come out when your child receives 3 absences. Please contact Mrs. McDonald for assistance.
Next step: if your child does have 5 in a class, you need to contact Mrs. McDonald and get the next step for how many hours he/she owes and the set up for the attendance recovery.
Thank you for helping with your child's attendance.

Feeling Stressed?
The past few months have been challenging for many, and yesterday’s events at the Capitol may have caused additional stress. Dallas ISD has resources to guide staff who feel they need assistance to handle stress, anxiety and feelings of depression.
Recognizing that you are stressed is the first step. Stress can escalate until your neck is sore, your heart is racing, and you feel overwhelmed. On an average day, more than half of the workforce leaves work with painful symptoms. Many take the stress home, vent with family or friends, and then have trouble sleeping.
The file below is a great resource for any individual needing help coping with stress.
