Principal Post
During yesterday's early release time teachers from both DuJardin and Erickson met to continue their work on standards based grading and reporting in English and Language Arts (ELA). At each grade level there is an ELA pilot teacher. Pilot teachers are responsible for reporting student progress on the ELA standards covered during the first trimester using a standards based report card. ALL teachers will be using a standards based report card to report student progress in all other subjects and work habits. Look for report cards to come home on November 22nd. More details on standards based grading and reporting to follow.
On Friday, October 18th fourth and fifth grade students will bring home the results of their 2019 Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) in English Language Arts and in Mathematics. These assessments were completed by the students in April. The IAR estimates how successfully the student is keeping pace with Illinois Learning Standards. The report explains, "What Do Scores Mean," "How Can I Use This Report," and "Your Child's Score."
The ELA assessment takes a closer look at five areas of reading and writing readiness:
- Literary Text
- Informational Text
- Vocabulary
- Written Expression
- Knowledge and Use of Language Conventions
The math assessment looks at four areas of mathematics readiness:
- Major Content
- Additional and Supporting Content
- Expressing Mathematical Reasoning
- Modeling and Application
Students are rated in each area listed above according to the following scale:
- H - for higher readiness estimates
- M - for middle readiness estimates
- L - for lower readiness estimates
More information on the overall results of the IAR assessments and how DuJardin students compared with students from around the state will follow in the next few weeks.
