Random Acts of Kindness Week

The week of February 15th is the National Random Acts of Kindness week. Our school will be participating in different projects to ensure everyone has the change to participate in doing random acts of kindness around school and at home . Our No Place for Hate student coalition will work on teaching students to balance out put downs with put ups in addition to teaching how our school is not a place for hate.

Lessons for the Month

Kinder: Students will learn about being kind to each other and different things they can do for others. We will be reading, The Kindness Quilt to teach this topic. They will also be learning about manners and deciding what manners they want to work on. We will be reading D.W.'s Guide to Perfect Manners.

1st-3rd: Students will also be focusing on random acts of kindness and building kindness quilts outside of their classrooms. For the second lesson, students will be learning how to handle frustration by naming it, taming it, and reframing it.

4th-5th: Students will be reading Those Shoes, and discussing empathy and random acts of kindness. They will begin their secret mission to complete a random act of kindness each day.

3rd -5th Grade Only

On March 5th from 11 am to 5 pm, UT is hosting the annual Explore UT event where the public is invited to learn more about higher education and can participate in research experiences and hands-on demonstrations. It seeks to help parents and teachers encourage excitement of learning and discovery.

This year Jollyville is going to invite students in grades 3-5 to participate in this event. Permission slips were sent home to 3rd-5th graders last week. If you have a child in 3rd-5th grade, and did not receive the permission slip, please contact one of us. If this event is successful, we will open up the trip to all ages next year.

Career Day

This year we will be adding a career day to our program. We are aiming to have K-2 on April 22nd (Career on Wheels-police, EMS, news reporter, firefighter, military, FedEx, etc), and 3rd-5th grade on April 29th. 3rd-5th will also have the chance to explore higher education options with ACC Mobile Go Van on the 22nd. If you are interested in presenting your career to students or know someone who enjoys this type of event, please contact us.
