The district-wide character trait of the month is RESPECT. This includes respecting others and yourself! Respect is following the Golden Rule—treating others as you want to be treated. It is also tolerance and acceptance of all types of people. We will focus on delivering the message of respect in October to reinforce this character trait. We are going to include internet/cyber safety as well, because your “cyber reputation” is a part of self-respect. Parents, please help us with this message at home. Some ways to help include: monitoring your child’s friend/follow list, checking over their comments and messages in the cyber world, and making sure that your child actually knows the people on their friends/follow list. Most of our students are active in the cyber world, and we want everyone to be safe! Protecting one’s reputation is essential in self-respect!
Reminder: All 8th graders will take the PSAT on October 20. This test will be great experience for each student’s future. All students will be able to set up an account through the College Board, and this will allow students to prepare for their college and career readiness. Please encourage your 8th grader to do their best!

The LVMS Bleacher Report...
Cross Country (Coach Karg)
This is our inaugural season!!
Our middle school cross country team competed against 43 other schools and about 400 runners this past weekend at the McNeil Invitational. We had the odds stacked against us as we arrived 15 minutes before the race was to start. Some of our runners barely arrived to the start line as the gun went off, however, we still ran will a great amount of speed and determination. Many of our runners achieved a personal best time - and they didn't even get to warm-up and stretch!!!!
Runners Mallory Webb, Aiden Panter, Grace Coldicott, Leah Coldicott, Katie Richardson, Dakota Hutchins, and Miya Voita shaved more than 2 minutes off their 2 mile time from the week before!!!!
Our runners will compete in their district meet on Monday, October 19th in Ingram.
Volleyball (Coach DuBose & Coach Holt):
The Lady Vikings traveled to Blanco this past Monday for their district matches. Each team had their work cut out for them. These were not easy games, but the girls rose to the occasion. The 7th Grade Gold Team was the only team to come home with that "W." They came up short the first set 25-19, but came back and won the next two 25-22 and 15-10. They played exceptionally well. Kylie Dixon had a heck of a game on the front row with 3 kills and dominated her serving game with 8 points in a row. Ivory Mason had 3 assists. Emily Pieklik had a very good defensive game, getting her setters great passes to be able to set their hitters up. We LOVE ending a match with a bump, set, hit. Way to go 7th Grade Gold Team!
The 8th Grade Blue Team wrapped up our night. These ladies took some very hard digs from #22 on Blanco. Mallory Webb, Monsie Martinez, and Juliessa Aguilar had one of the best defensive games I have seen all year. They were in the right spots back row taking balls left and right. I was very happy with their efforts. These ladies fought hard and it was a tough loss 25-18 and 25-8. However, we will get after it these next couple of weeks to prepare for those Panthers again at our District Tournament on October 24th.
Our next match is HOME next Thursday against Comfort on October 15th.
Football (Coach Fowler, Coach Rague, Coach Rogers, Coach Tomlin)
LVMS 7th & 8th Football vs. Florence
October 8, 2015
7th Grade:
Florence arrived early to Sisemore. However, the Vikings 7th grade team grounded the BUFFS by a score of 38 – 8. The Vikings took the opening kickoff with Josh Alexander making a nice return. Then QB, Adrian Hernandez made a botched play into a touchdown. He also converted the 2pt. play to get the Vikings first fire on the Ships. Vikings 6-0. Later
in the 1st Qtr. running back Josh Alexander had a long run for a TD. Adrian followed in on
the 2pt. conversion. Vikings 16-0. Layne Powers & Noah Hernandez are notable for making blocks on many plays to allow big plays. Later in the 2nd Qtr., running back Kaleb Alderete
dipped-n-dodged many buffaloes for 57 yds. to the endzone for a touchdown. QB, Adrian
Hernandez handled a busted conversion and scored the extra point try. Vikings 24-0 with
5:49 to go in the 2nd Qtr. After a missed 4th down conversion by the Buffaloes, the Vikings
again handed-off the ball to Kaleb Alderete for a 32 yd. TD run to paydirt. The conversion by R. Whitelaw was no good because of a few missed blocks by the lineman. Vikings lead going into halftime: 30 – 0. After the Vikings kicked-off to open the 3rd Qtr., they along with Florence traded possessions. The Vikings finally scored again at the end of the 3rd quarter. Josh Alexander rushed down field for the TD. Layne Powers ran in the 2pt. conversion. The Vikings had now stretched their lead 38-0. However, the Buffs weren’t done and rambled their way in for 6pts & the 2pt. conversion. The final score: Vikings 38- Buffs 8.
8th Grade:
The Vikings received the opening kickoff from the Buffs & Ben Carlton made a really nice
return to just past mid-field. Tristian Arambula & then Sam Hurley traded carries for the
Vikings as they moved the ball down the field. On a 2nd & 6, Tristian rumbled into the
endzone for 6pts. Tristian also pushed his way into the zone on the 2pt. conversion via the
‘Swinging Gate’. Vikings 8-0 with 2:25 to go in the first quarter. The Vikings & Buffaloes
then traded back-n-forth possessions in the 2nd Qtr. So at halftime, Vikings 8 & Buffs – 0.
The 2nd half kickoff to the Buffs was supposed to be a short kick, but instead it was a
sidewinder type roll and the Vikings Preston Coffey recovered the kick on the Buffs end of
the field. The next play had the Vikings moving early to back-up 5yds. So, Nathan
Weichman connected with Sam Hurley on a 46yd. pass for a touchdown. Nathan then
scored on the 2pt. conversion. Vikings 16 - 0. Lago Vista then held Florence on their 4th
down attempt to take over at mid-field. Tristian Arambula rushed the next carry into the
endzone for 6pts. & the 2pt. conversion. Vikings 24-0 with 5:05 to go in the 3rd qtr. The
offensive line (Angel Martinez, Jack Hood, Ethan Harris, Wm. Hamilton, Hunter Sims & Seth
Babin) continued to open holes in the Buff defense and Preston Coffey kept making nice cuts on the Buff secondary to allow the backs & QB to have nice rushing yards. At the end of the 3rd qtr. Jacob Garcia had an interception (INT) return for 16yds. However, the Vikes didn’t capitalize of the ball and turned-over to the Buffs on downs. The 4th qtr. began with the Buffs moving the ball and making a few pass completions. They did score at 4:20 in the 4th, to make it…Vikings-24 & Buffs-6. The Vikings held Florence out of the endzone on their 2pt. attempt. Lago Vista then could not get-it-going again and turned over the ball on downs. However, two plays later with 1:50 to go in the 4th, Grant Arrieta picked-up a fumble by the Buff running back an returned it for 6yds. The Vikings ran out the clock with the Victory formation. Vikings 24 & Buffaloes 6.
Both of the Lago Vista teams are 1–0 in District play. They all travel to Rockdale next week
with the Super Team playing at 4:30, 7th @ 5:30 & the 8th will play @ 6:30PM.
