BPMS News
Hello Baker Prairie Community!
It seems that fall has arrived! With that, many activities are here for kids. We are encouraging every student to find an extra-curricular activity to try. We know that kids are more engaged, and successful, in school when they are involved in extra-curricular activities. Please see below for some new opportunities.

Parent Speaker Coming to BP Next Week!
On October 3rd Baker Prairie will be hosting Dr. Doreen Dodgen-Magee, an engaging speaker, author, and psychologist, to talk to kids and families about having a balanced use of technology, and how technology affects our brains and our relationships with others. If your child uses technology, this will be worth your time (you won't leave with guilt- you'll leave with information and ideas).
She will be speaking to kids at a school assembly in the afternoon and we are hosting a parent night on 10/3 from 6:00 - 7:00 in the cafeteria/commons. Dr. Doreen can give practical advice, based on research, on how to help kids navigate today's technology world. This promises to be a helpful evening for parents and we hope you will join us!
Picture Retakes
Picture retakes are on Friday, September 29th. If your student did not get their picture taken at registration, please make sure they get their picture taken on retake day. It is spirit day- so you may need to help your child figure out their outfit coordination. Students need to get their picture taken even if you don't plan on purchasing a photo packet. Their picture is used for their ID cards, the yearbook and the school's data system. Thank you.
FALL CONFERENCES
The week of October 16-20 Baker Prairie will be holding virtual student led goal setting conferences with students, parents/guardians and your student’s advisory teacher through ZOOM. In this conference, your student will explain some of the goals they have set for this year and some of the challenges they may face in reaching those goals. Early in the year is a great time to make sure parents/guardians and teachers are all aligned and ready to provide guidance and support. Your advisory teacher will also be able to let you know about Baker Prairie resources that will help your student be successful. Your student’s Advisory teacher will be reaching out through email with information for you to sign up for you 15 minute time slot. Thank you for taking the time to attend this meeting.
In addition to the student-led Goal Setting Conferences, parents/guardians may also want to meet with individual teachers or a teacher may request to meet with you. Teachers will be emailing out information for you to sign up for an individual virtual conference time the week of October 16-20 through ZOOM. These conferences will be no more than 5-7 minutes long. It is best if the student is present so that they can participate in the discussion and provide their perspective.
