The ELPAC state assessment is coming! Please see this informational letter. 2023-24 Summative ELPAC Parent Notification Letter 3rd - 5th Grade students will begin ELPAC practice testing and training 2/5 - 2/19 with Mrs. Winn. The actual assessment for ELPAC Reading, Writing, and Listening will be from 2/20 - 3/1. The one-to-one Listening portion will be done with EUSD district testers on 2/28. This assessment is an important part of your child earning reclassification status. Please contact your child’s teacher or Ms. Susie for more information.
Lost and Found Update
We have more lost and found items than we can store. We will be donating the lost and found items on February 15th. Please stop by to take a look. Once the rain stops the lost and found will be moved out front to help families find their items. If your child’s name is on their items we can easily return them to class. Please consider writing your child’s name and teacher in all items sent to school, especially in TK - 2nd grade. Thank you.
Early education enrollment
New Student Enrollment is now open online for Transitional Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and Special Education Preschool. EUSD offers a full-day Transitional Kindergarten program to bridge the path between preschool and Kindergarten. For the 2024-2025 school year, children are eligible for TK if their date of birth is between September 2, 2019, and September 1, 2020. Students applying for Kindergarten must be age 5 on or before September 1, 2024. Students in EUSD TK and Kindergarten programs are eligible to participate in their school’s optional Expanded Learning program. The Expanded Learning program provides before- and after-school student care, from 6:30 a.m. to the morning bell and from the dismissal bell to 6 p.m. For questions regarding Special Education Preschool or about your student’s Special Education needs for next school year, contact the team at spedsupport@eusd.org.
Main Parking Lot Update
We need your help! All spots in the main parking lot are reserved for specific staff including parking in front of the chain in the first row. When staff cannot park in their assigned spots, they must use the guest spots. The goal is to reserve the guest spots for parents and families for arrival and dismissal. For this to work we need everyone’s help to park in the assigned spaces. After 8:30 and before 1:45, families may also park on the white curb or in front of the relocatable classrooms when they are volunteering or joining for special events. The parking in the dirt under the trees is also reserved for our after-school program and ELOP instructors, please do not use this space for pick up and drop off. If you want to walk your child to class or breakfast, the best option is to park on Country Club Lane or at Jesmond Dene Park. As a reminder, we offer drive-through drop-off and pick up which is the safest and fastest way to get your child to school. If your child has specific needs or fears, please communicate that to your child’s teacher or Mrs. Simone, at shaleftiras@eusd.org, we can help.
Spring Break Camps
Camps are available for EUSD students during the upcoming March 21-29 break from school. This flyer was sent via Thrillshare last week and the interest form is open through February 9.
Meet Mr. Childress, our NB Teacher of the Year for 2023-2024
We are excited to announce the 2023 - 2024 Teacher of the Year, Mr. Childress. Mr. Childress is a 3rd grade teacher. Mr. Childress has been teaching for 27 years, with 24 of those years in Escondido Union School District, including 9 years at North Broadway. Mr. Childress says teaching at North Broadway has been a wonderful experience! He has always found the students, teachers, and families at this school welcoming and supportive. Over the years he has taught K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th, & 8th grade. He enjoys teaching all the subjects but especially reading, as he is an avid reader. Besides reading books, most of the students know that when he is not teaching, he loves to be outside enjoying things such as playing sports, hiking, and of course fishing!
Here are a few words to describe Mr. Childress. “He truly cares about each student's overall well-being in his classroom. He encourages and guides them to become better learners in all areas: social emotional, physical, and academic.” “Mr. Childress has a wonderful rapport with students and families, and his constant positive attitude makes Scott a deserving recipient!! He is a fantastic teacher and colleague, and I appreciate all he does for North Broadway.” We are proud to have Mr. Childress represent North Broadway Broncos!
Student Leadership at North Broadway
Bronco Store Assistants
Last year, we were able to bring a brand new leadership opportunity to our school called Bronco Store Assistants. The program was such a success that we have been very excited to continue to offer the opportunity to students this year as well. As our Peace Patrol members did, Bronco Store Assistants must earn their job in our student store by completing an application and interview process. Once accepted, students receive several sessions of training that cover organizational skills, demonstrating responsible behavior, and of course, excellent customer service! This leadership opportunity is also unique as it is offered to grade levels 2nd-5th. We love to see our Broncos taking the lead.
Student Council Update
Another student leadership group is our Student Council. This month Student Council has created a special project to share the love. They are planning a love and friendship garden throughout the school with hearts and flowers that students can write notes of appreciation. Next week during lunch students will have a chance to create their notes. Then watch for the garden to grow!
Positive Behavior Intervention & Support (PBIS) Highlight
Season for Nonviolence - Each year, from January 30-April 4,
students throughout our district recognize a global campaign called
Season for Nonviolence (SNV). SNV celebrates the lives of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi, and their goal to make the world a more peaceful place. We engage our students in this celebration through weekly lessons, activities, spirit days, and discussions that promote peace and nonviolence in our communities.
Our North Broadway SNV Weekly Themes:
January 29th - Introduction to SNV
February 5th - Love and Appreciation
February 12th - Celebrating Differences

EUSD Framework for the Future: Learner Profile
Throughout February, we are highlighting our students as Creative Problem Solvers, one of the six whole-learner outcomes in the EUSD Learner Profile, part of our Framework for the Future. A Creative Problem Solver is an individual who seeks opportunities to creatively design solutions, solve complex problems, and act on novel ideas.
Roller Coaster Ramps! Our first graders built roller coasters with a loop that ends in the crate with the Children Museum Mobile Visit. They definitely had to use some creative problem solving.
School Redesign Family Feedback
North Broadway School has been redesigning our Learning Model and planning for how we will meet the EUSD Learner Profile Outcomes for students. We will be hosting a Coffee with the Principal March 8th (Rescheduled from February 23rd) at 8:45 AM to share our latest plan for the Redesign. This will be a chance for families to share their thoughts on our initial Learning Model design. Then we will have another six weeks of planning before our design is shared with the EUSD Design Team in mid April.

Family Engagement News
Please join us every Wednesday for our Volunteer Club! We are looking for volunteers to help our teachers with some prep work. Parent volunteers are a great asset to our school dynamic. We invite you to come to our school to volunteer your time and talents. We offer a child-friendly environment where you can meet other parents while helping our teachers prepare class materials such as cutting, pasting, etc. Volunteering is a great way to get involved and show just how important your child is to you! The Volunteer Club is open every Wednesday between 8:00-11:00 am.
EUSD App Update allows for Rooms Notifications
All communication from your child's teacher and the office will come through the EUSD App, specifically the Rooms part of the app. We do not want you to miss messages or photos so please update to the latest version of the EUSD app. This update allows guardians to turn on email notifications for messages and announcements! This is such an important update for improving communication from home and school. You will now get an alert when a message has been sent! To update the app, either delete and reinstall the app or just go to the app store, find the EUSD app, and click 'Update'. Then follow these Directions for turning on email notifications (link), See all Rooms documentation for families(link).
