Stopher Newsletter, November 2nd

IMPORTANT!!!! .................... Test to Play

Beginning November 1st, if a JCPS student (elementary, middle, and high school) is doing any extracurricular activities or sports, they are now required to take a weekly COVID-19 test. Stopher students can take a test during the school day on Wednesdays. To participate in this testing, students must have a consent form on file. Parents or guardians can access the online form by clicking here. Once there, click on the Complete Forms link to proceed. This includes (but is not limited to):

  • Drama By George
  • Bricks4Kidz
  • Chess
  • Dance
  • Cheer
  • Basketball
  • Quick Recall
  • FCA
  • Chorus/Drama if during non school hours
  • ANY indoor before/after school activity

*Current participants must begin testing no later than November 10th. Those students joining activities after November 10th must begin testing right away.

*Testing is done at Stopher on Wednesdays. Registration for the test must be completed prior to 2:00 the day before.

*You do not need to register every week. Once your student is on the list, he/she stays on the list until you remove him/her.

Students not tested will NOT be permitted to participate.

Student Masks and Water Bottles

MASKS: Please be sure that your student is wearing a mask to school each day.

WATER BOTTLES: At this time, students are not permitted to use the school water fountains. As a result (for this year only), students are bringing a water bottle to school with them. These bottles should contain WATER only. Please be sure that your child has his/her name on it. If your child does not have a water bottle, the school can provide him/her with one; however, we ask that they use it again in the following days instead of requesting a new one daily.

Dare to Care Update

Stopher far exceeded our goal of 10,000 cans this year. Collectively, our Stopher families sent in 4,859 cans and $6,977.55! Thank you all for helping to feed those in need in the Louisville area.

We need volunteers (and trucks or large SUVs) on Wednesday morning, 10:00-12:00 to take the cans to Dare to Care on Fern Valley Rd. Please contact connie.puckett@jefferson.kyschools.us if you can help. (Or if you have a large box truck that will work also!)

Lost and Found

It is THAT time of year! Our Lost and Found is already over flowing with jackets! Please be sure to put a name in your student's jacket. And if you are currently missing one, please have him/her check the lost and found for it.

Also, we currently have 3 pairs of glasses and one set of keys in the Lost and Found. The keys were in a box of canned goods that were brought in last week.

Veterans Day Recognition

Stopher would like to recognize the branches of the United States Military on Veterans Day. We are looking for a representative from each branch to address our students in two assemblies on November 11th. If you know a veteran who would like to speak briefly to our student body, please contact connie.puckett@jefferson.kyschools.us or jane.hart@jefferson.kyschools.us. Each participant will only need to speak for 2-3 minutes ... giving a brief description of their time in the service.

Proceeds Night at Chick A D's

November 9th

A portion of sales made between 4:00-7:00 pm will be donated to the Stopher PTA. Chick A D's has Stopher shirts, yard flags, doorhangers, car decals and more. This might be a good opportunity to pick up a holiday gift for your Stopher student!

Covid-19 Testing

Routine COVID-19 testing for those who are not symptomatic is available to students during school. This voluntary screening will be done weekly and can quickly identify individuals who may be COVID-19 positive. To participate in this testing, students must have a consent form on file. Parents or guardians can access the online form by clicking here. Once there, click on the Complete Forms link to proceed.

Test to Stay

If a JCPS student or employee is a close contact of someone with COVID-19, they now have an option not to quarantine. To qualify, they have to take a COVID-19 test every night for seven days. If they have a negative result, they can come back to school or work the next day.

Free testing is offered at middle and high schools and other select locations in the afternoons/evenings every Sunday-Thursday. There are now more than 50 locations available across the district. Click here for a list of sites and hours.

Grandparents Day

Celebrating Grandparents Day during Thanksgiving week has been a Stopher tradition since we first opened our doors in 2007. This year, COVID has put a hiccup in that tradition. We are postponing this event until late Spring. Please keep an eye out for this event then.
