GMAS

Our 4th graders ROCKED Math Part 1 and Part 2 of GMAS this week! I am so proud of them and our Lion Cubs in grades K, 1, 2, 3 and 5 for ensuring our hallways were quiet. Seeing ROAR behaviors like these makes my heart shine. Be sure to give your kiddo a hug and tell them thank you for being a good citizen during testing.

Starting on Monday, our 3rd graders will take ELA, and on Thursday, our 5th graders will begin Math. Please see the testing schedule below.

GMAS Spring Testing Dates

The Georgia Milestones EOG Elementary School Schedule is now available. Students in third, fourth, and fifth grades will take the GMAS beginning in April.

**Please note the updated schedule below. 5th grades schedule has been adjusted. They will now be taking both parts of the Science test on May13th.

All Pro Dads

We had a morning full of F-U-N at Parsons All Pro Dads' Breakfast. There were over one hundred in attendance. It was so much fun seeing the dads (and moms) using the engineering design model to create paper airplanes. When put to flight, there was some good ole' competition. There were a few that traveled half way through the cafeteria.

I would also like to give a special THANK YOU to Josh Holt for leading Parsons All Pro Dads the last six years. He definitely has supported the ONE RIDGE "Standard of Excellence" with his commitment and dedication.

ChangeMake Movie Incentive

If your child had a loved one sign up for ChangeMaker, they are invited to the Movie and Popcorn Party on Monday, April 25 during school. We will be watching the movie in the gym so have your child bring a towel in their backpack so they can lounge while viewing. An opt out letter was sent home with each student who will be participating. If you wish for child to NOT attend, please send the form in on Monday. Thanks again for being a ChangeMaker for our school.

Girls on the Run 5K

Support our Parsons' girls as they prepare for the 5K Race on April 27, 2022 @ 4:00 at the Peachtree Ridge High School track.

Show your Parsons spirit by running with the girls or cheering on the sidelines.

*If you are interested in volunteering to support the team, please contact Yolanda Harris @ 678-957-3050 or send an email to @ Yolanda.Harris@gcpsk12.org. If you would like to bring water or snacks to support, please contact Ms. Harris.

Some of you may have vivid memories of your elementary Field Day and the fun had by all. Well, we are excited to have Field Day this year for the first time in 3 years, and I know it will bring many fun memories for our students. Field Day is such a fun-filled, springtime event which gives our kiddos the chance to celebrate the school year coming to an end, show some class pride and spend time being active. Mask Guidance

On Friday, February 25, 2022, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its guidance and the prevention steps that should be taken based on the spread of COVID-19 in communities. Click here for the CDC guidance and the prevention steps. As part of the changes announced, the CDC is dropping its recommendation for universal school masking and instead will recommend masking only in communities at a high level of risk. According to the CDC, Gwinnett County is currently in a “Low” level of community spread. At this level, individuals are encouraged to stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines and to get tested if they have symptoms. In light of this updated guidance and Gwinnett County’s designation in the “Low” level of community spread, Gwinnett County Public Schools will transition from requiring masks to strongly recommending the use of masks in its facilities. In the coming days, school district leaders will be reviewing and updating quarantine and isolation procedures to account for these changes.

Birthday Celebration Policy

Parents,

Just a reminder of our Birthday Celebration Policy. This can be found in our Student/Parent Handbook as well.

Birthday Celebrations

Because of allergies, students wishing to have a treat for their class should use the Ice Cream plan. This plan provides ice cream for every student in the class for $1 per student. Birthday parties are not allowed at school. Balloons, flowers, etc. cannot be delivered to children at school or taken home on the bus. Party invitations may not be distributed at school.

If you will ask the teacher how many students are in the classroom, you can send in money and let the teacher know which day that week you would like to purchase ice cream for the entire class in honor of your student's birthday. The students all get to choose which ice cream they would like and they receive it at lunch that day. Thank you for your understanding.

Afternoon Transportation

All transportation changes must be made in writing. Whenever you need to make a change to your child's afternoon transportation plan, please complete an Afternoon Transportation Change Form in the front office no later than 12:00 PM the day of the change. We will utilize this form to create the appropriate afternoon transportation pass. Please remember the GCPS Bus Rule: no passes will be issued for play dates, birthdays, weekend sleepovers, etc. For security reasons, we DO NOT accept transportation changes through phone calls or emails.

Student Check Out

Anyone checking out a child must present photo identification and be listed in our system as someone able to have access to the student. If you need to make changes to your list of approved emergency contacts, you may make changes on the Parent Portal or stop by the office to update this information. As a reminder, students may NOT be checked out after 3:00 PM. For assistance in updating contact information on the Parent Portal, please visit https://www.gcpsk12.org/Page/11430.
