After School Program NEWSLETTER/February 2021

Big picture

Dear RSG After School Program students, families and supporters,

We sound like a broken record in the main office, but we can't stop saying, "I can't believe it's already February!"

With 2020 well behind us now, and January in the books, we are really looking forward to this month. Spring is right around the corner, and we are already starting to feel renewed in our mission!

Of course, February in Pennsylvania can often be one of worst winter weather months, so please make sure that you are signed up for Remind to receive messages about program cancellations, changes and important announcements. If you are receiving this newsletter digitally--you are already signed up, so thank you! If you need help or need to change your contact/emergency information, please email chelsea@respectivesolutions.com.

We are happy to announce that most of our sites are now back to in-person services! We are working with each district to follow all health and safety guidelines. Of course, for any students that are not yet attending in-person school, we continue to have the option of virtual program available. If this interests you, get in touch with your program coordinator or email us to get the Zoom link.

Please enjoy this educational, holiday-themed content that we have curated for you and your family, but most importantly, please keep us in mind if you know of a student who needs some extra help with academics, homework or is looking for a safe, fun and educational place to go after school.

Thank you for your continued support!

Best regards,

The RSG Team

February 2, 2021 - Groundhog Day

Did you know that the famous groundhog's home is right here in Pennsylvania? The event dates back to 1887 and has roots in German folklore. If you have never been to Punxsutawney, it is worth a visit (when it is safe to do so). "Punxsy," as it is called locally, is a town that has fully embraced its mascot, Punxsutawney Phil, AKA "Chuck." You will see the groundhog theme everywhere, including in cartoon-like statues that line the streets and decorate various businesses and buildings.

This year's event will take place on Gobbler's Knob, but due to COVID-19, there will not be a live audience. Instead, you can watch the event by visiting the official website (that is, if you are awake at 6:30 AM!)

P.S., Phil also has his own Facebook page and YouTube channel.

February 14, 2021 - Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day falls on a weekend this year! Does your family do anything special to celebrate? Do you take cards or treats to school to share with your friends? What's your favorite Valentine's Day candy? (We are fans of the conversation hearts, and Reese's, but we'll eat those for any holiday.)

Fun Fact!

Hey Harmony students (and Northern Cambria too,) have you heard that the town of Cherry Tree was named because that is where George Washington supposedly chopped his father's cherry tree with a hatchet? Well, that is not quite the case, but it is a local legend!
