Teachers, You Are Appreciated!
As we move into a very busy final month of school, please know how much your dedication to CCS is appreciated. Testing is complete and our students worked hard to demonstrate everything they have learned this year. Thank you for preparing them to do their very best. Our local campuses will be the sites of various Teacher Appreciation activities this week. These will be small tokens of appreciation but they do represent a genuine respect and admiration for you. You are truly invaluable to our family! Thank you!
Kevin McNutt Award Winners
Owen Lovell and Ann Carol Braswell were recently named the Kevin McNutt Award winners. Congratulations to two fine scholar athletes!
Spring Band Concert
The annual Spring Concert will be Thursday evening, May 4, 2017. The concert will be held in the Cullman High School Auditorium at 7:00 PM. The CHS Symphonic and Concert Bands as well as the CHS Jazz Band will perform. The featured performance of the evening will be the Symphonic Band’s presentation of An American Elegy by Frank Ticheli, and Havendance by David Holsinger. The CHS Jazz Band will also be presenting Louis Prima's Sing, Sing, Sing.
Our students have been working extremely hard to make this concert the very best yet. We believe it will be an event that everyone should enjoy. There is no admission charge for the concert, so bring your entire family to enjoy this evening of special music.
CHS Students Compete in an Array of Activities
We are so fortunate at CHS to offer so many extracurricular opportunities for our students. Over the past week and weekend we have had numerous students competing on stages, fields, tracks, lakes and courts! We are proud of you! Best of luck to those who will continue in competition this week! Go Bearcats!

Making History...Real
After recently completing chapters on Medieval China and Japan and reading the novel A Single Shard by Linda Sue Park which focused on Medieval Korea, Coach Hill's 8th grade World History classes celebrated a new holiday, East Asian Cultural Celebration Day. Students were encouraged to create their own artwork, poetry, music, and food to help wrap up their study on East Asia.
Looking Ahead
We are moving into the final month of school and CMS faculty, staff and students are prepared to finish strong. CMS has successfully completed the ACT Aspire testing and now everyone is ready to take on the final weeks of the 2016 - 2017 school year. May is always a busy time, but the focus remains on giving CMS students the best academic experience possible.
CMS will be taking a day to celebrate the successes of this school year on May 19th. Students will be recognized at our Awards Ceremony, receiving their yearbooks, and participating in field day. We are looking forward to a day of celebration.
Deep Discussion
The best discussions come when students feel safe to share. We encourage our students to share their own thinking and ideas.
Space Camp: Lots of learning, Tons of Fun
EES sixth grade students and teachers attend Space Camp at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville last week. It was a learning adventure with a life-long impact!
Join the Club
Sixth grade students have launched their book clubs in Mrs. Kristy White's class. These groups will read a book of their choice and create a presentation promoting the book to their class.
Learning by Doing
Mrs. Sashari Caretti's class is learning by doing as they welcome the arrival of their first butterfly. The butterfly unit is always a favorite in 2nd grade. As a part of the fun, these student conduct a little "juice box proboscis" and "cheeto dust pollination" experiment to increase their understanding.
Ice Cream Treat
Ms. Erica Rutherford's advancement to the top 16 in the state's Teacher of the Year competition brought sweet rewards for CCPS. Blue Bell ice cream brought treats for everyone in honor of Ms. Rutherford. Thank you Blue Bell!
