From the Principal
It was so nice seeing students all dressed up for Picture Day this week! The weather was perfect and I know these pictures will help to create a special yearbook. We had a great turnout and thanks for supporting our effort to have all students featured. Stay tuned for opportunities to share home photos for this year's book.
March is Women's History Month! It's a time to celebrate the amazing accomplishments of women throughout our history. This week our Crew book spotlight was, "Sophia Valdez, Future Prez". Additionally, we introduced students to some women changemakers during our crew check-ins. They've learned about:
-Chinese filmmaker and director: Chloe Zhao
-Scientist: Katie Bouman
-NASA scientist: Swati Mohan
-Congresswoman: Patsy Mink
-Songwriter legend and literacy activist: Dolly Parton
In honor of Women's History Month, check out this awesome read aloud of the book "She Persisted" written by Chelsea Clinton. In the book, Chelsea tells about 13 women who never took no for an answer and made an impact on American History.
Thank you for participating in our SLT survey last week. Our SLT members were able to share your concerns and wishes as CSD leadership decides the next phase for us. Thanks to our parent SLT members: Kevin Delaney, Christina Hambrick, Todd Pigford, and Deanna Sutandi for representing Oakhurst at the district-wide meeting held yesterday.

Grand Re-opening of the Decatur Student Center coming soon at DHS!
The Decatur Student Center at DHS is close to opening its doors to a completely renovated space for all of its students’ nonacademic needs. Thanks to a generous $25K donation from Decatur City Church to Joe’s Fund, DEF’s behavioral health initiative, the Decatur Student Center has a new look and feel and includes dedicated space for one-on-one counseling, group counseling, and a ZenDen where students can go to relax and regroup. We’ll be posting photos and virtual tours soon. In the meantime, if you’d like to join the Joe’s Fund Challenge with a donation, please visit www.decatureducationfoundation.org/joesfund. You can help us match Decatur City Church’s gift to double the impact to ensure that we can continue to address the wide and varied needs of all of our kids.
