THANK YOU PTSA & EagleNation Community For a Successful EAGLE STRUT!

It was chilly so we delayed our start, but the Eagle Strut took off and our entire community was engaged. All of our EagleNation students participated and it was a wonderful opportunity to see our students learn about civic engagement and community! We are appreciative to our PTSA board and ALL of the volunteers and donations from parents. Our staff were amazing in their support during the day and the participation from our students exceeded all we could have imagined! Thank you EagleNation families for your support.

CONGRATULATIONS to the EagleNation 2023 C-Span Participants

C-SPAN announced the winners of the 2023 StudentCam documentary competition, in which nearly 3,000 students from around the country participated and they awarded prizes totaling $100,000, which will be awarded to students and teachers.

The EagleNation had 9 winning documentaries consisting of 23 Eastern Eagles! Congratulations to our 2nd Prize Winners Dermott Foley & Grant Burthey on their submission Ella Scott's Banned Book Club: How Students Are Fighting Back In The War Over Censorship and Ideas and to Ganesh Ramamurthi, Luiza Cardoso de Araujo, & Rayna Wofford on their submission What a Waste.

Thank you to our hard working staff and families who supported our students. Congratulations to ALL of our participants; you can read more about all of the winners here.

The EagleNation Competed in MathCounts on the campus of Johns Hopkins University

The 250 students at the Math Counts Maryland State Tournament represented the top 20% of approximately 1,250 students who competed across all 7 MathCounts regional chapters in Maryland and our EagleNation Team of 4 students was one of 29 teams to qualify for competing!

The students successfully solved challenging problems, collaborated, and had fun with math. The EagleNation Math Team placed first in its region of the MCPS Middle School Math League, based on the efforts of 3 6-person teams. The EagleNation Math Team is 30-students strong and will next compete in the Montgomery Blair Math Tournament in April. We are thankful to Ms. Kuhn coaching the students and taking her time to support our eagles on Saturday.

The EagleNation Participated in the Minority Scholars Program Retreat at Northwest HS

EagleNation students attended the MCPS Minority Scholars Retreat at Northwest High School on Saturday. This was the 12th year of the retreat with over 1,000 MCPS students participating. The theme this year was, "We Are The Blueprint." Sessions included conversations about the characteristics of creating a healthy community and how students can help lead that effort! We are thankful to Ms. Hall and Ms. Short for their mentorship of this group of eagles and to Ms. Hall for sharing her Saturday to sponsor the students during this important opportunity.

The EagleNation Partners with The Sill in Bethesda To Make Healthier Humans (Eagles)

This Wednesday, an Eastern Alum and staff from The Sill (which is founded on the premise—plants make us happier, healthier humans) will be joining our Green Team to help repot classroom plants and teach students about plant care!

This effort is a part of Literally Green and is a student-led project designed to increase education and awareness to all staff and students about the importance of plants in our environment. The EagleNation team applied for and was granted funding to place an air-purifying plant in every school classroom and office used by students in order to increase awareness, social-emotional security of students and staff, and create an eco-friendly climate for our school.

The EagleNation team is receiving discounted plants through The Sill in Bethesda and purchased planters for each classroom. We think this is a great way to connect with our community and promote well being in our school. We are grateful to Ms. Mazlish and Ms. Peter for leading this effort to ensure our students have this opportunity!
