A Note From Principal Graham
Jackets, sweatshirts, and lunch boxes oh my! Our Lost and Found collection is full of tons of great items that would like to find their home. We have encouraged the students to check it out but parents, please feel free to come to visit our Lost and Found. We are still having some chilly mornings and I know our students need these warm items.
Thank you to our parents who came out for Artfest and Skate Night on Thursday, Feb. 20th. The cold, rainy weather did not stop us from having fun. Check out some great pictures located in this newsletter. It was great to see all the smiling faces of students, parents, and teachers. Hopefully, everyone can join this coming Thursday, Feb. 27th at our Book Fair Night with Sundaes and Stories. The PTA is providing sundaes and we will have a theater performance afterward. Hope to see you there!

Living a Reading Life at OGE. Everyone Can Be a “Sneaky Reader!”
Our school-wide reading program, Readers are Leaders, is a strong and integral part of our Oak Grove community within our school building. Students and staff can track their reading on weekly reading logs, get recognition for being on the Reading Reef, earn reading prizes, and even earn free books through this program.
Now we would like to include our Oak Grove families in this celebration of reading. On our Reading Reef wall outside the Library Learning Commons, we have a place for OGE Families, and we would love to see you there! So, you might be asking, how do I get my family on that wall? The answer - send us a picture of your family living your best reading life together. We want pictures of families reading in unusual and different places! Find creative ways to engage your family in “sneaky reading” and snap a picture. “Sneaky reading” is finding a few minutes between other activities to sneak in a little reading. Examples include waiting at the doctor’s office, in line at the grocery store, sitting in traffic, etc.
Send your pictures to Mrs. Lewis at mlewis@lexington1.net. We will print the pictures and post them on the Reading Reef AND on social media. By sending your pictures you are giving OGE permission to post on all social media platforms. If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Brazell, School Librarian, at dlbrazell@lexington1.net or 803-821-0113.
Help your child to be a “sneaky reader”
Make a list of the times during the day where your child could sneak in extra reading minutes
Share moments from your childhood when you were a sneaky reader
Document your life as a reader - share a picture with your child of you reading during your day
Show your child that reading is a part of your everyday life - reading the news online, reading a recipe as you cook dinner, reading directions, reading movie reviews, etc.

PTA Skate Night Recap
A little rain and cold weather didn’t stop the fun at OGES Skate Night! Students and their families came out for a great time of skating and socializing with classmates and friends. Make sure you mark those minutes of skating on your Activity Logs!
Want to Help?
Physical Activity Log
Be on the look-out this week for a Physical Activity Log coming home with your student! We are doing a small community initiative that involves students, staff, parents, and community stakeholders to try and reach 1 million minutes of physical activity outside of school hours. If you are already active, this becomes a way for you to just document your work and push to get minutes. If you are not very active, this program is intended to help give you a reason to get out and move. Whether it's a nice walk or a strenuous trail run, we would love to reach 1 million minutes. If you fill up one log, your student can get another! Let's get moving!!
Also, if you take any pictures of your families while logging minutes, please share them with us! You can email them to mlewis@lexington1.net!
