St. Columba Catholic School - News every Friday - 3/26/21

St. Columba Families,

We have officially made it through 75% of our school year. We have a total of just 43 school days left in the year! Wow! While those days will definitely fly by, we have a lot of special events and moments in this final quarter!

Next week, our 8th graders will lead us through a Living Stations of the Cross. Normally, this is a special event hosted in the church. This year, in true COVID fashion, this will be hosted virtually. I invite you to join our students on Zoom at 1:40pm on Wednesday for a watch party! Please see the Zoom link below.

As we head into Holy Week next week, I encourage you to take the time to reflect on Christ's passion and death with your children and how you as a family can make connections to these incredibly important moments in our faith.

Finally, I wanted to remind everyone that if you travel outside of San Diego County during Easter vacation, or any time for the remainder of the school year, you need to provide a negative PCR COVID-19 test result in order for your child to return to campus. We know that travel sports are starting to pick up, which means people are leaving the state at times for games. Some states, like Arizona (where a lot of travel sports play), have removed their mask mandates. This increases the risk and possibility of our students being exposed if they are traveling to these places. We want to remain open and in person for the remainder of the year, so please respect our expectations.

Here is a look ahead at the upcoming events on campus:

  • Monday, March 29:
  • Tuesday, March 30: All K-8 Student Mass (8:25am)
  • Wednesday, March 31: K-8 Reconciliation Service; Living Stations of the Cross Zoom Watch Party (1:40pm)
  • Thursday, April 1: 1/2 DAY FOR PRESCHOOL AND K-8; NO AFTER SCHOOL DAY CARE; No Student Mass; Report Cards Coming Home
  • Friday, April 2: NO SCHOOL FOR PRESCHOOL AND K-8

Temperature Check Update

The State and County have lifted their requirement for schools to take student temperatures as part of the requirement for entry to schools.

In order for us to no longer take temperatures every morning, it is expected that parents are still checking students at home for symptoms, including fevers, before they send students to school.

To date, we have sent students home less than 5 total times in the morning due to high temperatures and none of them have been positive for COVID-19.

By no longer taking student temperatures, it will allow our Preschool teachers to have more time in the morning to plan and prepare to teaching. It will also free up Ms. Kathy to get into the classrooms sooner and start supporting students earlier!

As a reminder, if your child is presenting any COVID-19 symptoms, they should not be sent to school. To see a full list of symptoms, along with the steps we have to take if a student is symptomatic, please see the attached Decision Tree.

Discount Card Fundraiser

Discount Cards are in and available!

Please be sure to head over to Schoolspeak or touch base with Ms. Linda about purchasing!

This is an EASY fundraiser to sell to your neighbors and friends!
