Happenings @ the Hill
Volume 2 Issue 40 (Week of May 26 - 29)
Good news! Yearbook signing IS NOT cancelled!
Bulldog Families,
We are excited to announce that the GHMS yearbook signing tradition is alive and well, and it’s fully digital to suit our socially-distanced students!
Jostens has just launched a new platform, Yearbook Digital Signing Pages, that gives all students in our school the chance to create virtual signing pages, invite their friends to leave messages, and print out the final pages to keep with the yearbook as a permanent keepsake. This is free for every student, whether he or she purchased a yearbook or not.
If you would like, register an account for your student today at https://yearbooksigning.jostens.com/home.
Set 3 eLearning ends May 28
Packet Drop Off Day is Friday, May 29. / You may also pick up medication and forms at this time from Nurse Hyde.

11:00am - 1:00pm

June 1 - 3 (8:10am-3:10pm) End of Year Procedures
ENTER building via Cafeteria Doors and EXIT via Main School Entrance (Front Doors)
You will need a face covering of some sort to ENTER our building (via cafe doors) on your designated day. We ask that you do not stop during your visit to have conversations with other families in the building so that the process runs efficiently, safely, and promotes social distancing as best we can.
- Your band instruments will be collected in our cafeteria. You may also search the Lost and Found for any items you might be missing.
- If you are bringing textbooks from home, return those to the textbook room (in hallway across from the gym).
- If you happen to have any athletic gear/equipment or uniform items to return, take them to our gym and place in designated locations. Soccer and Track Team Athletes: There will be tables set up for you to collect your team shirts. In bins, you will also find your banners (basketball, cheer, and track athletes). Athletes will need to clean out their athletic lockers as well.
- If you need to clean out your PE locker, you will take care of that and return the PE locks to the designated locations.
- From here, you will move to your hallway for locker clean out. If you have textbooks in your locker, bring them to the textbook room (in hallway across from the gym). Throw away any items you do not need in the trash bins/containers on the hallway. Please be quick about this so that this process can run efficiently.
- Return any library books to the bins located at the media center. If you owe for any books, you may pay for those from 8am-12pm while our media specialist is on campus. If you have any teacher classroom books, return those to the teacher labeled bins at their doors.
- Before you EXIT the front doors, you will have an opportunity to collect your yearbook (if you purchased one). 8th graders will also receive their recognition certificates and a little surprise from our PTA! Team athletic awards will be collected, too.
We are hosting drop off/collection by homerooms (teams) to limit the number of people on each hallway.
ENTER the building through our cafeteria doors.
EXIT the building via our front doors!
*Helpful Hint: Bring your back pack - Remember that thing? - filled with your return items and to collect your locker belongings! (You may have two lockers to clean out if you had PE last semester!) / You may want to bring a trash bag as well and just sort through your items once you get home.

Special Message from our Literacy Specialist, Mrs. Harms
It is really important that you return all ELA books to your classroom teachers. This includes class novels and classroom library books that you may have borrowed.
Some titles to look for are:
6th grade - Freak the Mighty, Because of Mr. Terupt
7th grade - Resistance, Prisoner B
8th grade - The Giver, The Outsiders, Animal Farm, A Separate Peace, I am Malala, A Long Way Gone, The Other Wes Moore, First They Killed My Father, Night, Prisoner B, Born A Crime.
If you borrowed any literature circle books, please return them May 29 or when you come to your designated day June 1 through June 3.
Want to donate books to a classroom? If you have any current books in good condition that you would like to donate to your teachers' classroom libraries, we would truly appreciate those donations. These books can be turned in to a bin outside of the library or to your specific ELA teacher's classroom bin when you come to school for all of the other end of year processes.
Please know that you can continue to login to Study Island over the summer. This is a great way to keep working on and improving your literacy skills!
All my best,
Angie Harms

Message from our Athletic Director, Tate Hamilton, Regarding Sports Physicals
Hello Bulldog Parents/Guardians,
I hope you are all staying well during this time. The current situation has thrown us all for a loop with the cancellation of sports this spring and the uncertainty of what things will look like as the new school year begins. The South Carolina High School League will be setting new regulations on how schools are allowed to hold tryouts and practices with the COVID-19 virus. When these guidelines are presented to Gold Hill, we will get a plan in place for our Fall Sports Season. One thing you can do at this time to prepare for the 20-21 Athletic Season is to go ahead and get a valid physical from a healthcare provider. A valid physical is required to tryout or participate for all SCHSL teams. For a physical to be valid it has to be completed after April 1st, 2020.
I am reaching out to you to let you know about a good opportunity to get your son or daughter a sports physical for the 2020-2021 school year. Per the South Carolina High School League, all students participating in athletics for their school are required to have a sports physical completed and on file with their school. The physical from must be completed on the SCHSL physical form and completed by a trained professional. The forms are located HERE which is under the forms/information section on the fortmillathletics.com website.
Doctor’s Care is offering a $15 Sports Physical.
Once the physical is completed, it needs to be uploaded to PlanetHS (formerly Arbiter Athlete). Please make sure that all signatures and dates are written on the physicals when uploaded. Parents can combine their account with their students if they are under 13. Directions and other information on how to join are located on the main athletic page for Gold Hill Middle School
HAVE A WONDERFUL SUMMER!
Gold Hill Middle School will be a school where all students learn as a result of our teaching talent and the positive human connection that leaves us feeling safe, loved, valued, heard, and respected. #BulldogsLEAD
