Update From the Enviro Team
Thank you to everyone who supported the Fruit and Vege trolley. At the moment there is nothing else to sell but if you have any spare seedlings that we can plant in our vegetable garden we would be extremely grateful!
Our hens have settled in well to their new home but have yet to start laying. We do hope to eventually have eggs to sell.
Pukeko Room have successfully hatched 5 chickens and Mahana Room hope to begin the process next week. Thank you to Raylee for her help in this project.
Our goal as an Enviro School is to plan, design and implement sustainable actions that we consider are important to us and our community. Our major focus this year is recycling and cutting down on rubbish around the school.
Hopefully, we will have some photos of our journey soon!

Jones Cup
Paid Union Meeting
On Tuesday 26th June our school will be open, but not for instruction from 1.30 - 3.00 on this day. If you are able to collect your children at 1.30pm that would be really appreciated. If you are unable to collect your children at 1.30pm could you please let your teacher know as cover will need to be arranged.
What are these meetings about:
Teachers and Principals have consistently raised workload, lack of support for students with additional learning and behavioural needs, and undervaluing of the profession, as key issues over the last few years. We have tried to address these issues through previous rounds of negotiations and through work programmes. Although some progress has been achieved, it has been insufficient to address the deep seated and fundamental issues facing our profession. This has led to a crisis in recruitment and retention of teachers and principals. So the Kua Tae Te Wā/It’s Time campaign has been launched to achieve the significant investment we need, so that all children can reach their potential, and teaching is an attractive, valued and well supported profession.
Overall Campaign Objective: To achieve major new government investment in teaching and learning.
Board of Trustees Update
" Hi everyone, I thought I should take a few moments to introduce myself to you all. I’m Karen Smylie – your newly co-opted Chair of Ngaere School Board of Trustees. Firstly, thanks to Brendan Haami for doing such a fantastic role as Chair for the last three years – it’s certainly made for an easy transition. The Board are all delighted you’ve agreed to stay on the Board in the role of Community Liaison – thanks again! A bit about me. My husband Simon and I have four kids at Ngaere School – Lachie (Year 6), Niamh (Year 4) and Angus and Quinn (Year 1). We also have Flynn who was also at Ngaere School for six years. I’m the HR Manager at the Taranaki Regional Council where I’ve been for nearly 10 years, and we live just out of Eltham where we are share milking. I’ve really enjoyed being involved at the school for the last eight years, through supporting the teachers with regular parent help in the classroom in each of my children’s classes, and also two years on the Ngaere School Board of Trustees a couple of years ago. I feel really privileged to be co-opted back onto the Board to support Megan and our school. I’m looking forward to working with my fellow Board members - Brendan Haami, Sandi Parker, Alister Swan, Faye Wilson, Garry Hill, Penny Andrews and Megan along with our fantastic board secretary Carol Henderson in doing all we can to support student achievement. I look forward to catching up with you all over the next few months!"
