What is African Sleeping Sickness?
African Trypanosomiasis, also known as "sleeping sickness," is caused by microscopic parasites of the species Trypanosoma brucei. There are two forms of African Sleeping Sickness' and they are East African Trypanosomiasis and West African Trypanosomiasis. You can get both of the sleeping sickness' from the same parasites.
Treatment
All poeple diagnosed with African Sleeping Sickness should receive treatment. The specific drug and treatment course will depend on the type of infection, whether the central nervous system has been invaded by the parasite. There is no tast of cure for African Sleeping Sickness.
How do you get it
A person can get African Sleeping Sickness if he or she is bitten by a tsetse fly infected with the Trypanosoma brucei rhodesienseparasite. The proportion of tsetse flies that are infected with this parasite is low. The tsetse fly is found only in rural Africa.
