Big picture

The newest members of the KAS Alumni Association

Dear KAS Families,

Congratulations to the KAS Class of 2020. We are so proud of each and every graduate, and we wish them the best as they go out into the world. This year’s graduates have been accepted to some of the best universities in the world. Places like Brown, Wellesley, Purdue, Johns Hopkins, the schools in the UC system, U. of Toronto, Carnegie Mellon, U. of Michigan, Penn State, UIUC, UBC, Boston U., and many others. Even in the face of unprecedented hardship, these exceptional young people have shown their courage, their resolve, and the strength of their character. Graduates, you are now officially part of the KAS Alumni Association, and you will have the associated benefits and privileges for a lifetime. Remember you will always be Dragons, you will always be part of the KAS family, and you are always welcome to come home to KAS for a visit.

We are pleased to share with KAS families that this year we are offering several options for the KAS Summer Institute. We know that more families than usual will spend their summer in Taiwan, and we want to help students enjoy the summer and keep their minds sharp. We have a variety of options, and we encourage you to review what’s available and sign up students in areas of interest.

We do have to achieve the necessary number of students in each class to be able to offer Summer Institute. Sign-ups will remain open through Monday, May 25. We will reach out to all interested families promptly when sign-ups close to inform them if we have enough enrolled students to offer the program. Our Curriculum Coordinator, Ms. Debi Haines, will serve as Summer School Principal, and she can be reached with questions at Please see the links below to review the course offerings and to register.

Sign of the Times

The consistency of change in the “college world” has never been so present as it has been this year. More changes are on the horizon with many of them online or in the “virtual world”. Information about colleges has taken a more active role online and colleges are finding they can cover more territory in online podcasts or interactive meetings with students and parents. You are going to find more and more of this during this year and next. Personally, I always liked the fact that colleges enjoyed visiting us at KAS physically and meeting with the students however, given our state of affairs, the computer has taken on a whole new importance and will be used extensively in the coming months.

The first of many virtual information sessions will be available to everyone on May 19 and May 27. Please check out Harvard, Pomona, Stanford and Wellesley and participate in their meeting from the comfort of your home. Registration information follows. Please register early and note that the information is the same for both sessions. To maximize your time together, please submit your questions when you RSVP to the event.
