The competition was extremely strong this year, and the standard of applications very high.
Shark "Shout Outs" MRHS's way of Appreciating the Great People That Make Our School "A Home Away From Home" Please share any good news with us!
Special Prom Shout Out! Thank you to Peter Moynagh for collecting formal wear for kids in need. Steve and Tina Cass and Susan Whitcomb donated funds that allowed several students to purchase prom tickets. JoAnne Weekes and Sharon Gleason offered their creative energy to make lovely centerpieces. Derrick Spurrier, Monomoy parent and photographer, is donating his time to capture the fun at the prom and after prom. Thank you all for your kindness! Thank you to Jr. Class Advisors Ms. Casey & Dr. Otto for all their efforts in preparation of the big night!
I want to express my deep appreciation for the chaperones who safely shepherded two dozen MRHS students to London over April break. Ms. Barnes, Ms. Police, Ms. Coughlin, and Dr. Otto left their own lives and families to take care of our children, helping them enjoy the trip of a lifetime, where they expanded their perspectives, gained independence, and deepened relationships. I am so thankful for their generosity and kindness, and to our district for offering such transformative experiences for our students.

I wanted to send a huge Shout Out to Rachel Barnes for helping my daughter Audrey Smith through a very stressful situation when her luggage was lost for 3 days on the trip to London.
Mrs. Barnes not only helped work with the airlines, she also took Audrey under her wing helping her maneuver the city to purchase needed items and clothing to get by. She also communicated with us parents alleviating our fears of not being able to help as we were an ocean apart.
In the end she assured Audrey that someday she would look
upon
this experience and laugh. (see pic below)Marcie Thorngate Smith

I shared our You Are Important and 620 initiatives and the whole group decided to create their own YOU ARE IMPORTANT wall which they will be putting up this weekend. 620 cards were shared to all teachers who loved the idea of recognizing students. *see photos above and below*
We all had a lot of fun and many laughs and I have been invited back to continue our work.

Community Opportunity
WE CAN is collaborating with Community Action Committee of Cape Cod & the Islands and the Nauset Interfaith Association to offer a free community based Know Your Rights talk on 5/2/18 at 6 pm at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Orleans, anyone is welcome. Immigration Attorney Collin Mickle will be presenting useful legal information on inalienable rights and how to exercise them, time for Q & A and we will have Portuguese and Spanish interpreters.
WE CAN does have bilingual and multilingual staff, 2 immigration attorneys who volunteer their time to meet with women and over the last year, we have heard the fear that many people are living with on the Cape due to immigration status concerns, particularly those who are undocumented thus we are grateful to be able to assist in bringing this important information to the Lower and Outer Cape.
