Big picture

Happy New Year to You!

I hope your winter break has been full of lots of joy! We look forward to welcoming the children back to school on Tuesday, January 3rd! I cannot wait to hear about everything they did while they were off. They always come in with so much to tell! And, they all seem to grow taller over the break too!

GME will be moving & grooving during the month of January! You can read all about the different initiatives, events and activities below! Make sure you check out the upcoming dates & events as well!

Thank you for choosing GME for your children! We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with you as we work to provide the best possible place for all children to learn and grow! As always, feel free to contact me at or 513-363-9600 if you need anything!

Take good care,

Mrs. Ridley

January 6th - Schoolwide Assembly - 1000 Acts of Kindness

We will host a schoolwide assembly on Friday, January 6th where we will reiterate The Golden Rule (Treat others the way you wish to be treated!) and how it comes alive in our building each day! The challenge for each person at GME will be to show at least 2 acts of kindness by the end of the school year - these will be represented in the main hallway - be sure to check it out when you are at the school! Our goal is 1000 Acts of Kindness!

January 6th - K-6th Grade Schoolwide Writing Project - Should Bubblegum Be Allowed in School?

All of our K-6th graders will engage in a schoolwide WRITING PROJECT on Friday, January 6th!

The BIG question is: Should bubblegum be allowed in school?

According to Writing Standard #1: Text Types & Purposes, set forth by the State of Ohio, kindergarten-6th grade students are expected to "Write arguments to support claims in an analysis of substantive topics or texts, using valid reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence."

GME is working hard to improve our ACHIEVEMENT on the State Report Card! The Writing portion of the state test offers the 3rd-6th grade students an opportunity to earn up to 10 points for their writing.

What does a GOOD PARAGRAPH include?

A TOPIC sentence or CONTROLLING idea that tells what the paragraph is all about!

At least THREE sentences that develop, support or elaborate on the topic with more detail.

A CONCLUSION sentence that summarizes the paragraph!

Here are some pointers on how YOU can HELP your CHILD at HOME with WRITING:

1. Expect your child to write in complete sentences!

2. Expect your child to begin the sentence with a capital letter and end with a punctuation mark (period, exclamation mark or question mark.)

3. Expect your child to write at least 5 sentences per paragraph.

Please reach out to your child's teacher if you want to learn more about how to support your child's WRITING at home!
