Classroom News!
One of the many pleasures of teaching is seeing all the ways our young students respond to the lessons and activities we have planned. As we set up we wonder about, and look forward to, the moment the children engage with the materials. No matter how much thought we put into it, we don't always know what activities will resonate with a particular group of children. This was a week of deep engagement. If you were a fly on the wall you would have seen children deep in concentration, practicing sharing ideas they worked together to create, imaginations ignited and, as always, lots and lots of laughter!
In Math this week, our focus was getting familiar with the teen numbers on our number grid. We learned that each number when paired with 10 becomes a teen number and that the golden rule of a teen number is that it always starts with a 1.
"Boo!" "Eeek!" We've been talking about Halloween words as we've been reading Halloween stories. It's funny to think about the parts of our mouths (tongue, teeth, lips) and the huge variety of sounds we can make. We learned that there are symbols for many of those sounds (letters!) and that you can get other people to make those sounds by recording or writing down those symbols.

Poem of the week: "Jack O'Lantern"
Jack O'Lantern
Jack O'Lantern, Jack O'Lantern
You are such a funny sight
As you sit there in the window
Looking out at the night.
You were once an orange pumpkin
Growing on a sturdy vine
Now you are a Jack O'Lantern
See the candlelight shine
