How the match worked
The way the match worked
It started out as a stick coated with chemicals bursted into a flame when its scrapped on something to make it react. And that's what stared the friction match that we use today. The match was at first called a " friction light" for obvious reasons. The first matches sold were made of cardboard but quickly switched it to be wooden sticks. Then he started to package them in a cardboard box with sandpaper on it to make it an all in one.
The way the matches have been changed
They haven't changed dramatically but they have changed to be safer. Instead if red sulfur gum, potassium chlorinate, and sugar, matches are now made with white phosphorous a much safer alternative, keep the flame more controlled and only sparks at an exact extent.
