Graduation Info: Seniors & Guests
Info for Class of 2021
Graduation is right around the corner. We anticipate over 350 graduates this year! Please take a moment to read through a few reminders to help make this a memorable night for your graduate.
Last School Day for Seniors is May 21st!
Dear Parents and Seniors,
Graduation is right around the corner. We anticipate over 350 graduates this year! Please take a moment to read through a few reminders to help make this a memorable night for your graduate. We expect to hand out 6 tickets per student. Everyone over the age of 5 needs a ticket. They will receive these tickets at Graduation rehearsal (see below for details) to insure their attendance and participation.
Graduation will be live-streamed so that all family members can enjoy the ceremony! This information will be sent out closer to next Thursday.
For Rehearsal:
- Graduation rehearsal begins at 8:45 AM on the field.
- All senior debts must be cleared BEFORE graduation rehearsal. Seniors will not participate in graduation if debts are not cleared.
- Seniors that need lunch account refunds can complete the pay it forward/transfer/refund form on the CSD website under the Nutrition tab (https://www.csdecatur.net/Page/478). This allows funds to be refunded, donated or transferred to another sibling in our school system.
- All seniors participating in the Graduation ceremony must be at rehearsal in the stadium until 12pm.
- Seniors will receive their SIX tickets, cords, stoles, etc. during the rehearsal.
For the Ceremony:
- Graduates are to report to the Don Griffith side of Gymnasium (across from Chick Fil-A) at 6:00 PM to prepare for the procession.
- DRESS: Graduates should be dressed in light clothing under their gowns. To keep the formality of the occasion, students should wear dress shoes or nice sandals. Since graduates will be walking on the field, please take this into consideration when selecting footwear. No sneakers, please. Shorts are not permitted.
- Consider wearing sunscreen because there will be sun on the field during graduation.
Seniors will need to be in good standing with behavior and academics to participate in the Graduation ceremony and senior events. Diplomas will be held for any students facing disciplinary action. These students may also be prohibited from participating in graduation exercises and senior events.
The ceremony is meant to honor each and every student. Therefore, applause needs to be measured and limited to the time the student walks across the stage. Here are some directions that will help the evening be a positive experience for students, guests and families:
Gates open at 6pm. Guests should be seated by 7pm.
Masks are required. We will also follow social distancing guidelines.
Because guests and graduates will be exposed to the sun, consider wearing sunglasses, hats, and sunscreen.
Limited parking is available in the upper parking lot. Overflow parking will be available at Renfroe Middle, the Agnes Scott College parking deck and the parking garage on Trinity Avenue (please note that this garage charges a fee for parking). There will be some spaces specifically held for handicapped guests, however, as it gets late we may ask you to drop off and then park in one of the other lots.
No one will be admitted carrying bags, balloons, banners, posters or large mementos. This blocks the view of other families to see their graduates and causes interruptions in the ceremony. No airhorns will be admitted.
Though we are in the stadium, we are committed to maintaining the ceremonial aspect of the graduation. Please refrain from bringing noisemakers or unnecessary items to the ceremony. Your students know you are proud and there are many other ways to show it.
Each guest over the age of 5 must show a ticket upon entry. We have organized the graduates and the stage so that guests can sit on either side of the stadium (home & visitor) and enjoy the ceremony.
Handicap seating is limited to the entry level in the stadium. There are areas for wheelchairs and a small bench beside for an attendant. Guests who are not in need of handicap seating will be asked to move from those areas.
