Ideology and Countries
US and USSR

Communism to Stalinism
The Communist revolution replaced this philosophy with the idea that the common man is powerful. This replaced isolationism with globalized utilitarianism. The idea that countries were artificial and rather the USSR was simply one of the 'liberated' countries. This was a romantic ideal providing space for the Russian peoples to feel a kinship across the lines of countries, and rectify their differences with others.
Stalinism and Post-stalinism are ideologies that reverted to the initial state of isolationism. Stalin's self-centered attitude and winner-take-all foreign policy aligned with that idea of a unified Russian empire. This was problematic as it was rooted in constructions of threats and endless paranoia.
Modernism to Militarism
After WW2 the US was forced to reunite. Patriotism and Duty ruled in the hearts of people. The idea that the US was a "crusading nation" fighting for the good of mankind led to a new condition of American Exceptionalism. This was based in the idea of vulnerability as well. The more vulnerable a population, the less they will be able to adequately hold up their ideals. This fostered constructions of threats to display hegemonic power.
