Note from the Principal

Hello NES Families,

Happy Monday! Thank you to all the families who were able to join our events last week. We were able to enroll new Kindergarten students for next Fall, and we had an all-school parade to celebrate "Woyaya" (we are better together). You can see some pictures below.

Next up, would you like to help with Staff Appreciation Week? It's the first week of May (May 2-6), but we'd like to collect pre-packaged snacks from families this week. We will then set up a table of goodies in the staff room on Monday (5/2). We hope to keep our amazing staff well fed all week long. If you'd like to help, please drop off some snacks anytime this week at the front office/front foyer area. You can read about the rest of Staff Appreciation Week below.

Thank you for reading the Notes Home each week to stay informed of school events and district information.

Staff Appreciation NEXT Week (First Week of May)

One of the best weeks of the year is coming up next week... we get to celebrate our amazing staff at NES!

Here's the plan. Families, we need your help for Monday and Wednesday next week:

  • Monday, May 2nd: Snack Table! Please drop off snacks any day this week at the front office to help.

  • Tuesday, May 3rd: Cake from the NV district office

  • Wednesday, May 4th: Words of Appreciation from students (please help your students draw, write, color, design, or create whatever they would like to give to their teachers and other adults they care about at school). These are the BEST gifts!

  • Thursday, May 5th: Staff Lunch provided by "Families for Nooksack"

  • Friday, May 6th: Coffee for staff in collaboration with Coffee Girls

School Effectiveness Survey for Grade 4 & 5 Students

Dear Parents/Guardians,

During the week of May 2nd, our elementary schools will be conducting school effectiveness surveys for our grade 4 and 5 students. A survey will also go out to families. These surveys will ask for feedback in several areas related to school improvement. NVSD will be partnering with the Center for Education Effectiveness who will support implementation, data gathering, and analysis.

The survey will focus on characteristics of high-performing schools, specifically:

  • Clear and Shared Focus
  • High Standards and Expectations
  • Effective Leadership
  • Supportive Learning Environment
  • Parent and Community Involvement
  • Monitoring Teaching and Learning

While there is no single solution to school and district improvement, community and student voice is a key component. It is our goal for all students and parents/guardians to complete a survey to ensure that all voices are heard and taken into consideration as we update our strategic plan.

Please reach out to your building principal if you have any questions or concerns.

We are excited to hear your feedback as we continue to move forward.

Sincerely,

Matt Galley

NVSD Superintendent

Notification of Race/Ethnicity Update Needed

Parents/Guardians: Recently, the US Department of Education and OSPI changed the reporting categories for student ethnicity and race data. As a result, we need to ask you to identify your child as either Hispanic/Latino or not Hispanic/Latino (Ethnicity), and by one or more racial groups (State/Federal Race). We ask that you log into your Family Access account and select the “New Online Form – Race/Ethnicity Resurvey” to complete the two questions. Please complete and submit this form for each of your enrolled students. If you decline to provide this information, the US Dept. of Education requires school district staff to use observer-identification as a last resort for collecting the data. Thank you for your help with this.

Volunteers are Welcome

Our schools are now able to accept parent volunteers again. Please click here for the VOLUNTEER PACKET. You can also call the district office at (360) 988-4754 to see if your volunteer status is still active.
