Leadership Day
Friday was Leadership Day at Cypress. The children were AMAZING!!!! Student leaders shined across the campus. The morning started with guests receiving a warm welcome from the happiest greeters you've ever seen! Then a variety of students from all grade levels presented to a room of at least 300 adults! These presentations included 3rd graders reading leadership poems they wrote, Kindergartners talking about how they've learned to be proactive and make the personal decision to have a positive attitude even when things don't go as they have planned, a student panel of 5th graders answering questions about the 7 Habits and leadership at Cypress, 4th graders explaining their Sidewalk Kindness Campaign Make a Difference project and musical presentations by 1st and 2nd graders. All of this was presented by outstanding student speakers and emcees! In addition to the presentations, there were student led tours around the campus where visitors had the opportunity to hear students sharing their academic goals and how they worked to reach this goal along with their classroom & grade level W.I.G.S. (Wildly Important Goals), and their class mission statements. Some other highlights on the tours were 5th graders demonstrating their Career Museum projects, 4th graders presenting their Make-A-Difference projects, and various children explaining their Science Fair projects. Every student in the building had a piece of their leadership from this school year to share and in many cases several pieces! We are more than proud of our students! They ROCKED Leadership Day!
I want to thank the students leaders on our Junior Lighthouse (Leadership) Team that helped plan for and organize events for the day. Savanna Williamson, McCailey Merritt, Siena Gutschow, Mackenzie Galbraith, Lauren Delbridge, Taylor Engen, Trevor Von Wupperfield, Makena Hoyt, Courtney McDanald, Emma Winward, Kate Sanderson, Samantha Beam and Shelsea McCalla, you did a TREMENDOUS job and we appreciate your leadership!
Finally, our staff Lighthouse (Leadership) team who have done a PHENOMINAL job throughout the school year to support the Leader in Me across campus and culminate the best outcome of synergy I've seen in a long time with Leadership Day! My deepest appreciation goes out to Ms. Ward, Ms. Heideman, Ms. Delbridge, Ms. Hipps, Ms. Kennis, Mr. Helmlinger, Ms. Tristan, Ms. Loethen, Ms. Harman, Ms. Cordell and Mr. Fisher (our only parent representative).

There will be a lot of great handmade items available for students to purchase. The Business Fair is a great opportunity for our 5th graders to have a hands-on experience with business and learn about supply, demand, assembly lines, etc. All student can buy tickets to purchase items at the Business Fair. Each ticket is 25 cents. Some items cost more than one tickets. This is a day that all of our students LOVE! If it rains we will have to modify the schedule for the grades as there will only be one grade participating at a time instead of two grades if we do not get rain.
A Note from Nurse Barbara
All medication and diabetic supplies that have been left in the clinic for your child this school year need to be picked up on or before 11:45 am on June 3rd. We are not allowed to release medications to students under any circumstances. As per District policy, all medication must be picked up by a parent or guardian. The district does not allow medication to be stored in the clinic over the summer, so all medications not picked up on or by 11:45 am on June 3rd will be disposed of. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
