Grizzlies Stay Health and Stay Safe
DAILY STUDENT SCREENING AT HOME
All families are required to complete the Wayne County Health Department’s “COVID-19 Screening Tool for Families” prior to coming to school each day.
- For the safety of all of our students and staff, as parents, we need to make sure that we’re performing the daily screenings on our students before sending them to school.
- If you answer yes to any of the protocol questions, you must keep your child home.
- All of us need to do our part to make sure we can continue the educational models that our parents have chosen.

Grizzlies this month
Mrs. Outland's Remote Kindergarten
We are working on learning our letters and sounds along with practicing rhyming. We are writing our names with an uppercase first letter and the rest lower case. In math, we are sorting, counting, and starting to learn our shapes! Soon we will add in science and social studies and hope to go on a virtual field trip to a farm or apple orchard! We love Seesaw, Happy Numbers, and Lalilo!
Mrs. Newland's Remote 1st Grade
Mrs. Newland’s Remote First Grade is off to a great start!!
We are becoming technology masters in Zoom. We have been working extremely hard in our reading and math groups learning how to blend words and create math partners through 10. In social studies, we are learning about our families and in science, we are learning about lights and sounds. I want to thank all of the students and their families for all of their hard work. It’s been a great start to first grade and we are excited to keep on growing and learning!
Thank you, Mrs. Newland
Halloween Celebrations
Classroom Celebrations
Teachers will be planning whole class activities celebrating Halloween.
Students may come to school dressed in their costumes. Unfortunately, students are not allowed to bring ANY type of play weapon or full face mask to school. Proper facial coverings are still required.
BOO!
This year we are unable to host whole school events for Halloween....so... No Trunk-or-Treat, no Halloween Parade, and students will not be allowed to bring in treats or food for classroom celebrations.
10/16 - Purple and White Spirit Day
In honor of WHS Homecoming, we will be joining them and showing up with with our PURPLE PRIDE.
Drop off and Pick Up Procedures
visitors and volunteers
Lunch/Materials Drop Off
Please drop off lunches and/or other materials on the cart outside of the main office. We will be monitoring the cart during the day and retrieving items to ensure delivery to students. Please make sure that any item(s) left are clearly labeled with the student's name, teacher, and grade.
Drop Off and Pick Up
When dropping off and picking up students, we ask you to observe the following safety procedures:
Drop Off:
The drop-off lane is open.
This is our KISS & GO ZONE. Pull up next to the sidewalk to let your student out of your vehicle from the passenger side ONLY.
Please do not drop off your students in the parking lot or the second lane of traffic.
If your student needs assistance exiting the car, you MUST park your car in the lot and walk your student to the front of the school to ensure a safe crossing from the parking lot.
Students should not be permitted to walk past parked or moving cars unescorted.
Y5-K-1-2nd graders will have outdoor lineup locations marked by teacher names.
3-4-5 grade students will line up outside at their classroom doors.
Pick Up:
Our Y5-K-1-2 graders who are getting picked-up will be escorted to their outside staging locations. Parents should pick up your student from these staging areas.
3-4-5 Graders will exit from their classroom doors. All 3-4-5 classrooms are by the patio
You may meet your child at their classroom doors or staging location and escort them to your car
No student will be allowed to leave the sidewalk unescorted.
Do not call your student to your car if you are parked in the main lot
Early Pick Up
We can not have visitors in the office at this time!
Call the office, once you arrive at school, to request your student for early dismissal. Spots in the parking lot will be designated for early pick-up.
Your child will be escorted out to your car. Please have identification ready.
You must complete the sign-out form or the attached QR code
Anyone who picks up your child MUST be on your Emergency Contact List.
You can update your emergency contacts by logging into Parent Portal.
If you must pick up your student early, plan to pick them up prior to 3:30 pm, however, every effort should be made to alleviate this growing issue by honoring the school schedule.
Attendance Counts!
Children can only thrive in school if they are present in school. Listed below are our definitions of and policies about attendance.
Absence—any day that a student misses school. REMOTE OR IN-PERSON
Late arrivals - After 10:00 am the student will be marked absent for the morning.
Early Dismissal - before 3:00 pm in the student will be marked absent for the PM.
Excused Absence—Any medically documented absence, funeral days, or court date will not be counted against the student.
Excessive Absences:
If a child accumulates 10 absences in a school year, the building administrator will send a letter to inform the parent/guardian
If the child reaches 15 absences in a school year the building administrator will inform the local police department of a potential truancy issue.
The police department will then contact or visit the child’s home to discuss the truancy with the parents.
If the absences reach 20 in a school year, according to law, referrals must be made to the Local Police Department and possibly, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
*Parents are encouraged not to take their children out of school for vacations. Vacation days are considered unexcused.
TARDIES—arrives late for leaves early from school and missing LESS than 55 minutes of school time
Birthday Celebrations
Due to health and safety guidelines, birthday treats are not allowed at this time. We will do our best to celebrate our students’ special days.
