What is the water footprint?
The water footprint is the amount of fresh water utilized in the production or supply of the goods and services used by a particular person or group.
Types of water
Blue Water
The water that comes from rivers, lakes and aquifers.
Green Water
The water that soaks the ground after falling on fields and meadows.
Grey Water
Its the water that gets polluted.
EXAMPLES.
- TOMATO: it takes 50 litres of water to produce a tomato. 50% of the water is green, 30% blue and 20% grey.
- T-SHIRT: it takes 2500 litres of water to produce a cotton t-shirt. 54% of the water is green, 33% blue and 13% is grey.
