TerraNichol Academy of the Arts
Weekly School Blog April 15-26th, 2019
Our journey and wonder in learning labs this week.
What an amazing two weeks it has been. Although last week was a short one you wouldn't know it when looking at all that the students have been involved in! This is why students thrive because they are surrounded by an environment rich with possibilities!
Earth Day Bash was a blast! Working in the school garden to harvest bok choy and parsley and peppers and examining the caterpillars that chomped our kale was the perfect start to the day. Students were so excited to create garden friends during Culinary Arts. Shaping caterpillars, bees, dragonflies, ladybugs, snails, and butterflies using a variety of fresh organic fruits and vegetables made for a delightful snack! We also made fresh carrot, apple juice with Miss Terra's juicer. It was delicious and refreshing and super healthy too! We used recycled egg cartons to paint a colorful decoration for the playscape but one of the most enjoyed projects was painting upcycled coffee mugs to make bee homes. We are looking forward to a volunteer to cut the rest of the bamboo for us so that we can finish and hang these home for our bee friends!
Throughout the bee project, students are learning so much about these amazing insects. Many students were amazed to learn that bees have 4 wings! That antenna are used to smell and feel and that bees have special stomachs just to transport the nectar to the hive! They have learned that male bees are called drones and their job is to search for a new queen and female bees are worker bees and they collect nectar and work in the hive. Students are learning the lesson from bees that nothing can work without teamwork just like in the hive! Ask your child to tell you about bees as there are many other facts that we have discovered! See what all the buzz is about. Extend the bee project at home!
We say goodbye to our beautiful artist friend Georgia O'Keeffe. Inspired by Poppies students painted some gorgeous poppies that are lighting up the story studio!
Last week we also recognized Save the Elephant Day. The literacy journey Elephants Can Paint Too students learned that elephants can be very talented but also discovered that painting like an elephant is no easy task! We had some great discussions about how elephants have very strong emotions. We discussed ways to educate others about these creatures and how they should be left to live in the wild.

Teacher Appreciation Week! May 6th-10th
We are grateful to have the experience to teach your beautiful children but it is always nice to feel appreciated.
Teachers are real-life superheroes. They educate, innovate, encourage and support. Every day they touch the lives of millions of children and their work and the impact extends far beyond the boundaries of the program and learning labs.
Take the time to celebrate these real-life superheroes during Teacher Appreciation Week, May 6th-10th, 2018.
Teacher Appreciation Committee
Every year our lovely parents form a teacher appreciation committee. If you would like to join and participate in this fun week sign up to help, organize and plan this very special week of celebrating our passionate teaching team. Sign up in the rock room in the Parent Volunteer Book.
We have 3 amazing real-life superhero teachers. We do our best to eat healthy and organic. We enjoy places such as Café Evergreen, Black Gold Coffee Roasters, and we enjoy shopping at local establishments. Miss Terra and Miss Michelle's teacher collages in the welcome hallway may offer some great inspiration! We also love donations for the learning labs. We attached our wish list below!
