paralympic torch
In the run up to the Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games 2016, the British Paralympic Association in partnership with Spirit of 2012 is taking the torch on a nationwide tour of 100 primary schools, and we will be its host on 29th June! The tour presents a unique opportunity to raise awareness of the Paralympic Movement and to inspire young people through the Paralympic Values: courage, determination, equality and inspiration. On the day, there will be workshops for the children as well as the torch relay.
enterprise day - friday 24th june
Next Friday Year 5 are hosting an Enterprise Day which will take place at playtime, lunchtime and after school. This will give all the children and you as parents/carers the opportunity to purchase our products. Please can you send some money (each product/activity will cost about 50p or £1) with your child/children (in a named envelope) or bring money with you on Friday after school as there will be a whole range of activities to take part in e.g. growing your own flower, making birthday cards or jewellery, a game of target practice and a wide variety of items to purchase.

Message from the Cathedral
I wonder if the game “Hide and Seek” was invented in the Bible? One of the very first stories in The Old Testament tells us about Adam and Eve eating the forbidden fruit and then trying to hide from God, who of course immediately found them. This week we have been looking at the story of Jonah who was sent to Nineveh to save the people there from themselves and their sins by hearing the word of God. Jonah let himself and God down, very badly, by running away to sea! He got his just deserts when he was thrown overboard by the crew of his ship and found himself inside a whale’s stomach….not nice at all and enough to make him seek redemption and go and do God’s work after all. There was no hiding place from God or from himself.
Sometimes, like Jonah, we run away rather than face up to our troubles. If only we could realise that actually, God is our hiding place and no problem is too great for Him to help us with. In Paul’s letter to the early Christians of Rome he said
“If God is for us, who can be against us?”
It is all about our friends “faith” and “trust”. For Christians, God is our secret, immovable hiding place. He is our special fortress and whenever life overwhelms us we can always run to Him. Draw near to Him and He will draw near to you as well.
Dear God,
Help me to hide in your comfort and encouragement and to know that I am protected by the shield of Your love. Let me feel safe in the shelter of Your protection and to understand that no storm is too great for You to calm.
Amen

Now is a good time to come along if you are thinking of getting involved, as we will update our fundraising total for the year, discuss future activities and set a date in September or October for the Annual General Meeting.
