Forest Grove Family Falcon Update
January 19, 2023 - January 26, 2023
Message from the Principal
Dear Forest Grove Families and Staff,
This week, I would like to share our efforts toward clear and consistent expectations school wide. Falcons SOAR. They are Safe, On-task, Accountable and Respectful. We introduced SOAR in November and students through student council participated in creating the expectations. Students reviewed the expectations in their classrooms for two weeks. In December, we held our first assembly for all students.
This week, we discussed the S in SOAR in a 3rd-5th grade assembly. Our assembly was focused on being safe. Each month we will focus on each expectation. At the assembly, we review expectations, answer questions, and draw Falcon feathers. Students earn Falcon feather by displaying any of the expectations throughout the day. We have also paired up SOAR with the Toolbox as follows:
SOAR: SAFE
Toolbox: Personal space; Courage; Quiet and Safe Space
SOAR: On-Task
Toolbox: Taking Time; Patience; Listening
SOAR: Accountable
Toolbox: Breathing; Apology and Forgiveness; Empathy
SOAR: Respectful
Toolbox: Please and Thank you; Using Our Words; Garbage Can
Next week, we will have an assembly for 1st-2nd grade and a shorten assembly for TK-K.
1, 2, 3...Go Falcons!
Yours in education,
Irene Preciado., PhD

Program Highlight
Instructional Aides and Noon Supervisors
Forest Grove is fortunate to have instructional aides who support the classroom teachers. Their duties and responsibilities are varied but are concentrated in ensuring each student and each class is provided with the best support possible to enhance their understanding of concepts in language arts and mathematics under the guidance of the classroom teacher. Additionally, instructional aides support social emotional activities, field trips and are an integral part of the health of the school, the instructional program and the overall success of our Falcons.
Many of the instructional aides also support the recess time and work as noon supervisors. In this role, the noon supervisors supervise recess and lunch routines to ensure students are safe and engaged in structured activities in the playground. We are lucky to have a wonderful campus with three levels to play for first through fifth grade level. Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten have their own play area. Noon supervisors have designated levels to supervise and support students.
Instructional aides and noon supervisors are essential to our daily educational program. We appreciate and value your work. Thank you for keeping us safe and engaged in learning in the classrooms and at recess!
PTA needs volunteers, please.
We are in need of 1 to 2 parent volunteers from each grade level to help coordinate and plan either Primary (Friday February 24th) and/or Intermediate night (Friday March 10th). The PTA would really like to have these 2 events for our falcons! Is anyone willing to take this on? We would greatly appreciate the help and promise it will be a fun night for our falcon families. If you are interested please email Chris Vera James at fgptapresident@gmail.com. Thank you in advance for your help and consideration!
