Tone is the attitude of a person, place, or situation.
Tonal Shift is the way an attitude changes.
Describing Tone and Tonal Shift
If you speak to someone and you can hear some sort of tone in their voice whether it is excitement or anger you will understand how they feel. Tonal Shift is the way an attitude changes from for example calm to excited.
The Book Thief Tone
In The Book Thief there were some tone changes, and in the beginning of the story with Death as the narrator he changed the way he thought about people or how he looked at people. In the beginning Death believed he would just want to take peoples souls and leave now he has become invested into living peoples lives and looking over them.
