Principal's Message
Hello Families,
We are so excited to launch the International Great Kindness Challenge this coming week. Tomorrow, 1/23, is Crazy for Kindness Day - Wear Crazy Hats and Socks. Please see all the information below on all the fun kindness activities and spririt days coming to Vista Academy this week.
We hope everyone received the Spring conservatory offerings information this past week. I wanted to clarify that if your child submitted for just one conservatory, you may re-submit the form with all the conservatories your child is interested in. Dance conservatory aduditions are this week in the dance room and the rest of the conservatories will be a lottery process beginning of February. More conservatory infromation can be found below in the conservatory section.
As you know we are now accepting magnet applications for the 2023-24 school year. Please spread the word to friends and neighbors in conversation and on social media. Magnet Application is linked HERE and in our application section below. Our first Virtual Magnet Elementary Night is tomorrow evening at 5 PM via ZOOM. I will be sharing all about Vista Academy's program with prospective families and answering questions.

We are also providing tours every Thursday for interested famililes.
We are beginning to look ahead to next year's Foundation leadership and want to extend an invitation to our next Foundation meeting this coming Tuesday evening at 5:30 PM here in person. We will provide childcare for those who attend in person. A ZOOM option will also be available if you are unable to attend in person. Please reach out to Principal Walker for the ZOOM link.

The Great Kindness Challenge Jan. 23- Jan. 27
Student Council will help launch this event starting tomorrow morning.
The Great Kindness Challenge is one week devoted to performing as many acts of kindness as possible. All this week, we encourage all students and families to help promote this event. Please help to make this upcoming week special and meaningful.
Each day of KINDNESS MATTERS week, we are asking you to wear something different to show your commitment to being KIND.
Mon. 1/23: Crazy for Kindness (wear CRAZY Hair & CRAZIEST Socks!)
Tues. 1/24: “Peace, Love & Kindness” Tie Dye Tuesday (Dress as a hippie)
Wed. 1/25: Global Kindness Culture Day (Dress up to show International Pride)
Thurs. 1/26: Kindness Is Power (Dress Up as a hero in your life or a superhero)
Fri. 1/27: I Dream of Kindness (Dress in your comfy pajamas)
This week, students will have the opportunity to take Action by participating in various Kindness Matters Activities in class and in the Library.

VUSD Elementary Magnet Schools - Virtual Info Nights
We are excited to announce that we will be partnering with Vista Academy to host two virtual VUSD magnet schools information nights. Link will be provided in the coming weeks. This webinar is a chance for prospective families to get to know each school and ask questions at the end of the session with the Principals and IB Coordinators. Please share far and wide. Thank you!

VAPA's Spring Conservatories!
We are excited to share our spring conservatory offerings with our students and families. Please review promptly as the dance offerings will be hosting auditions next week.
Dance will have in-person auditions for conservatories while Art, Music and Spanish will select students through a lottery system.

Vista Academy Yearbook- Help Us By Sharing Your Photos!
Starting each Friday for 6 weeks, the Yearbook Committee will be asking for and accepting photos from the community to be uploaded by individuals using a community URL. Photo requests from the Yearbook Committee will be based on weekly themes. Please understand that every photo may not be used.

Community guidelines when submitting photos for the yearbook:
-School-appropriate photos ONLY (no nudity, harassing or abusive body language, harassing or abusive language on clothing, etc.)
- Photos should represent our values at school: respectful, caring, principled, and kind
Submitting a photo does not guarantee it will be used in the yearbook. Additionally, submitting a photo with non-students in the photograph is providing consent and agreeing to be printed in the yearbook for Vista Academy of Visual and Performing Arts for staff, students, parents, and community members to see.
Elevate After School Program
All communication about acceptance and enrollment comes by email from the company Elevo since they are the contractor for the after school program. For any questions, please email vistausd@elevolearning.com or call 858-399-3602. They have sent information regarding acceptance in to the program.
- After school, teachers will send students who have enrolled to a designated check-in location at the lunch tables where Elevate staff will meet them.
- Students may be picked up by parents at the Santa Fe gate (next to the second grade classrooms).

Campus Tours for Prospective Families
In January 2023, VUSD magnet applications will open for all prospective families wanting to attend Vista Academy.
Prospective families may attend a campus tour to learn more about Vista Academy. Please call our office (706-941-0880) to schedule a tour with Mrs. Scott-Gonzalez.
If any family members are experiencing COVID symptoms, we ask that you refrain from joining us on the tour and reschedule. Thank you for keeping our learning community safe!

Our COVID Protocols
According to the very latest CDPH guidance for schools, indoor masking in K-12 school settings continues to be a strong recommendation, but not required.
In addition to routine cleaning, VUSD has installed maximum air filters and air cleaners in our classrooms and buildings.
If your child is displaying symptoms or tests positive, please keep them home and notify us immediately.
Parents are only required to inform the school if their student tests positive for COVID-19.
Only students who have symptoms or test positive must be isolated at home.
Families, in order to help us prioritize health and safety for all of our students and staff, please communicate with us. We appreciate you notifying us in any of the following scenarios:
If you notice any symptoms, please keep your child at home. Notify the school immediately.
If you have taken a PCR or NAAT test and it is positive, please inform the school immediately.

To return to school after having symptoms, a negative test is required and symptoms need to be improving and be fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication. The test does not need to be shared with school.
If your child has any of the following symptoms, please keep your child at home and notify our school immediately. COVID symptoms may include:
Fever or chills
Cough
Shortness of Breath or Difficulty Breathing
Fatigue
Muscle or Body Aches
Headache
New Loss of Taste or Smell
Sore Throat
Congestion or Runny Nose
Nausea or Vomiting
