KINDERGARTEN BULLETIN
East Meadows Elementary
WELCOME TO EAST MEADOWS! Here's everything you need to know about FULL and HALF DAY KINDERGARTEN
We know that you may have a lot of questions so I wanted to send out a little bulletin to help guide you as we begin this new school year. Please read through this Q & A and let us know if you have additional questions.
We are looking forward to a wonderful school year in 2023-2024!
When does school start for my kindergarten child? What are the hours?
Once your teacher has been assigned, you will receive an email with a link to sign up for a time to bring your child in for their assessment between August 16th - 22nd. This is for ALL Kindergarten students, both full and half day.
Full Day Kindergarten Hours:
Monday: 8:45 AM - 2:15 PM (we have early out every Monday for teacher collaboration)
Tuesday - Friday: 8:45 AM - 3:00 PM
Half-Day Kindergarten Hours:
Monday - Friday: 8:45 AM - 11:15 AM

Where is the drop off zone at East Meadows? What door will be open?
On the first day of school, parents are welcome to come inside and walk your child to class so that you can take pictures and help them get settled.
After the first day, all parents will be required to check in at the front office and obtain clearance through the security doors in order to walk down to the classroom. We plan to have staff in the hall helping our kindergarten students to find their way through the school and to their class during the first few weeks of school.
What will breakfast and lunch look like for my kindergartener?
Lunch is available for students enrolled in Full Day Kindergarten. Students will eat lunch at 11:30 pm and enjoy a 15 minute recess afterward where they will be well supervised and play in an area with our 1st grade students. Half day students will not be eating lunch at school as they dismiss at 11:15 am. Please contact Mrs. Jordan directly if you have a special circumstance that needs to be considered.
You can prepay for school meals by logging in to your iCampus account. Click here for directions. You can also send a check or cash with your child to school. Please place it in a sealed envelope with your child's name, grade and teacher name written on the outside. Students may bring it to the front office or to the lunchroom directly in the morning.

When will we know our child's teacher? Can we visit the school ahead of time?
CLICK HERE TO ACCESS THE iCAMPUS PARENT PORTAL
You are invited to come visit the school on our Open House day which will be Tuesday, August 15th from 3:00 - 5:00 PM. You can tour the school, find your classroom, meet your teacher and visit our PTA tables at the front of the school if you'd like to join PTA or order school shirts.

What days will my child be in school? Is there a calendar?
We also have printed magnets available at the school that show all the dates including SEP Conferences and Picture Days. Those will be available at our Open House on the 15th.
What does my child need to bring to school?
All materials and school supplies are provided for your child. We do ask that each parent pay a $25 donation fee at the beginning of the year, which can be done in your iCampus account under the "Fees" tab. This covers all supplies, field trips, activities and class parties for your child for the entire year.

What will the Full Day Kindergarten schedule look like?
- Mornings will be filled with reading, writing and mathematics.
- Children will attend a different specialty class 30 minutes each day (library, P.E., music, computers or art)
- Afternoons will be filled with exploratory activities that are linked to science and social concepts as well as time for creative play and social interaction.
- Student will be given recess time and additional breaks throughout the day.
We understand that young children may grow tired and will take some time to adjust to a new schedule of attending school for more than 6 hours a day. Our teachers have been planning and preparing ways to support students through this new adventure of all day school.
