Welcome to Woodland Acres Elementary
Dear Wildcat Families,
Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year at Woodland Acres Elementary. We are thrilled to welcome back our students after summer vacation. As educators, the students are our purpose and we can't wait to get them here.
The first day of school is Thursday, August 12th. But before then, please take a moment to read through this August newsletter for important information.
We appreciate your support as we transition back into full face-to-face instruction.
Best regards,
Mrs. Sandra Rodriguez, Principal
Arrival
Students must be dropped off through the carpool lane
near the staff parking lot between 7:00-7:40 a.m.
Parents should enter the lane from Sheffield Blvd and turn right into the carpool lane.
PK students should be dropped off at the 1st stop near door 16.
This entrance leads them into the cafeteria.
Other grades can be dropped off at any other stop.
Please help keep the line flowing by ensuring your child has everything ready to exit the vehicle swiftly and independently.
Students that ride the bus will enter through the main entrance in front of the school.
***On the 1st day of school, parents of Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students
may walk up to Door 3 to drop off their child.
This door is next to our main entrance.
No parents will be permitted to enter the building.***
Tardies
Any student arriving at 7:40 a.m. when the tardy bell rings is considered late.
The carpool lane is closed at this time and the students must be dropped off in the office.
The front office staff will provide them with a tardy slip before heading to class.
Please keep in mind that consistent tardies impact students on specials transfers and that
excessive tardies may lead to address verification.
Water Fountains
Dismissal
Car riders will be picked up through the carpool lane near the staff parking.
Please have your cartag visible.
If you were unable to pick up your tag during "Meet the Teacher", your tag will be sent home with your child. If you need an extra tag or a replacement, you may purchase more through Revtrak.
Upon exiting the carpool lane, parents are asked to turn right towards Miles St.
This will help with the flow of traffic.
Daycare vans and bus riders will be picked up from the front of the school.
Front door walkers may pick up students at the front side door.
Please be respectful of our neighbors’ property by not parking in our neighbors’ property and walking up to the school.
Back walkers will be escorted through Woodland Acres Middle School
and released to an adult.
Any changes to your child’s dismissal should be communicated to the front office by 2:30 p.m. each day.
Students early check-out stops at 2:30 p.m.
After 2:30 p.m., parents will have to wait until regular dismissal time to pick up their child.
The front office closes at 3:45 p.m. Arriving late excessively to pick up your child can lead to referrals to Child Protective Service and can impact students on special transfers.

Dress Code
This school year, we return to standardized dress code for all students.
Top must be collared/polo-type shirt with no designs or logos of any color. For bottoms, students may wear pants, shorts, skirts, dresses or jumpers. All bottoms must be khaki, navy or black. Leggings are not allowed as pants, unless they are worn under a uniform skirt or dress.
Shirts should be tucked in.
Belts MUST be worn with bottoms that have belt loops.
Skirts and shorts must be long enough to pass the fingertips when arms are down by the side.
Pants should not have tears or allow for exposed skin.
All shoes MUST have a back.
Sweaters, wind jackets, jackets MUST be a solid color with no designs or logos.
No symbols, shapes or designs should be cut into hair and hair should be of natural color.
(ex: no Mohawks, no dyed hair color, no shaved logos)
All backpacks must be clear or mesh.
Wildcat Spirit
We are the "Home of the Wildcats" and on Fridays we show our wildcat spirit.
Students may wear a Wildcat Spirit shirt with jeans or uniform bottoms on Fridays. To purchase a wildcat shirt, visit this link.
In addition, students may wear a college shirt too.
At times, we may offer various dress up days.
These will be approved by campus administrators and communicated to you as needed.

Masks
An executive order issued by Governor Greg Abbott earlier this year prohibited
public schools from mandating masks as of June 5th;
therefore, Galena Park ISD does not have the legal authority to enact a mask mandate.
However, we are asking our staff and students to wear masks for their protection and the protection of others.
We want to keep our children healthy and in school.
