3rd Grade visits DNR Outdoor Adventure
On March 28, the third grade made their way to the DNR Outdoor Adventure Center in Detroit. The students were able to enjoy hands-on exhibits and simulators that helped us experience what makes Michigan special and learn about how the DNR manages the parks, forests and wildlife. The students also attended a class teaching about how Michigan's environment has changed and the processes that have shaped Michigan.
Science Olympiad Competition
Disney's Science Olympiad teams had a strong showing this weekend at the South Macomb competition held at Fraser High School. Medals were handed out to top 6 in each category. Disney earned 5 first place medals, 1 second, 2 third, 3 fourth, 2 fifth, and 1 sixth place medal! And to top it off, Disney's main team earned the overall 1st place trophy out of 25 teams teams competing! We have been close before, but this is the first time Disney has won overall!
We are all so proud of our Disney Science Olympians for their hard work and efforts to their team and learning. Thank you, Mrs. Hamilton, and all of our team coaches for your dedication and efforts to help prepare our students.
The teams will now continue to prepare for the county competition held at Macomb Community College South Campus on Saturday, May 13.
Way to go, TEAM DISNEY!
M-Step testing is around the corner
Each spring, the State of Michigan and the US Department of Education (USDE) require us to assess students in certain subject areas through the M-STEP, PSAT and SAT. The assessments provide the district with a snapshot of student achievement at the state, district, and building levels. Individual student results will also be shared with parents.
The tentative assessment dates for M-Step are as follows:
3rd Grade
Wednesday, April 19 - ELA
Tuesday, April 25 - Math
4th Grade
Monday, April 24 - ELA
Tuesday, May 2 - Math

Thursday, April 20 - ELA
Wednesday, April 26 - Math
Thursday, May 4 - Social Studies
Wednesday, May 10 - Science
6th Grade

Please ensure that your child is well rested on their testing day. They should come to school with a fully charged iPad .
Please note- We have makeup days built into our testing schedule, so if your child is exhibiting any symptoms of illness on their testing day- be sure to keep them home.
Also, due to recent updates in State testing procedures, cell phones, smart watches, and any bluetooth device (including headphones) MUST be secured during testing. We encourage students to leave these devices home on testing days when possible. When not possible, devices will be powered down and secured during testing.
We are Building Good Readers!
March is designated as “Reading Month” in Michigan schools. Our goal is to promote a love of reading throughout the month by giving special emphasis to activities that promote reading as a fun and enjoyable experience. This year Disney's Theme will be “Building Good Readers, One Book At A Time.”
Please use the calendar to keep track of the number of minutes that your child reads each day. Younger students may also count time spent listening to family members reading to them. At the end of the month, students who meet their reading goal will earn a lego bookmark and a sweet treat! The top reader in each class will receive a book from the media center and the top reader in each grade level will receive a gift card!
Don't forget to turn in your completed march is reading month calendar to win prizes!!!!

We are very excited to offer you the opportunity to attend a three-hour training session in Restorative Practices. The program offers a look at the Restorative Practices theory and its application. It is a very dynamic, interactive training that focuses on creating relationships and building practical skills that use a relational approach for parents and caregivers.
What will be learned:
The theory of Restorative Practices, how it is being implemented in our school district and strategies that parents can apply when dealing with your children and loved ones.
We will discuss the power of affective statements and restorative questioning. We will demonstrate how community building circles are being implemented at FPS and how they make a difference in our relationships.
Who will be teaching:
Your instructors collectively hold over 50 years’ experience in education, 27 years in Public Safety, and over a dozen years directly related to Restorative Practices. Our instructors – a retired police officer, a teacher, and a school social worker – are well trained in RP and have been training the Fraser Public School District employees in Restorative Practices for the last five years.
Who should attend:
Any parent or guardian who does not have all the answers to raising your kids!!!
Why attend:
It takes a village to raise a child. Allow us to support you and provide you an additional set of tools in your parent toolbox! You won’t regret the time you spend with us!!!
When:
Wednesday, April 19th from 6pm to 9pm at Richards Middle School Media Center. Free Pizza and Pop will be provided along with childcare!!!
In addition
Fraser Department of Public Safety will be hosting dinner for all who attend.
Safety Town-Public Safety Awareness for students
We are also offering free childcare for school aged kids (5-12). The students will have excitement of their own. Our students will experience “Safety Town” by Fraser’s Finest. They will visit the police station, the fire station, the EMS station, our support dog station, and a fun craft station. (This will be set up at RMS around the corner from our training)

Parking Lot
We all know that the Disney parking lot at arrival and dismissal can be stressful and intense with the high volume of car pickup students. From time to time it is important to review our procedures. If we all follow our parking lot procedures and practice patience, we will be able to quickly exit everyone safely
Below are a few important reminders:
- The bus loop is NOT a drop-off or pick-up area. Please keep this lane clear during arrival and dismissal times.
- The drop-off/pick-up line is not an area for parked cars. If you would like to walk your child up to the door, please park in a parking spot.
- Please refrain from parking anywhere other than designated parking spaces, this includes, parking in handicapped parking spots unless your handicap parking pass is properly displayed.
- Please turn right on Kelly when exiting the parking lot to help assist with traffic flow.
- Please be distraction free - refrain from using cell phones, loud music, or other distracting activities. Pay attention and be on the lookout for people walking through the lots
- The driveway in the front of the school is for bus parking and exiting traffic only. Families may not walk through the bus driveway at dismissal.
- Smoking and pets are not permitted on school grounds. Please leave your pets at home for the safety and comfort of all of our students and families.
Thank you for your support in keeping our community safe in our parking lots.
