Resilience
If I could use one word to describe School Nutrition employees, it would be "Resilient." As this year ends, take a minute to reflect on all you have accomplished and the obstacles you cleared to meet the challenges Covid presented. Every single day I am impressed with how you adapt your workload to staff shortages, out of stocks and more. Your ability to pivot on a dime to accommodate almost daily changes in a fast paced environment is beyond remarkable. When we made "Flexibility" the theme for 2020-21, little did we know how important that trait would be. Thank you for your exceptional work this year. I hope the summer affords everyone some time for self care and fun...you've more than earned it!
With gratitude,
Kathy

Kathryn's Kitchen Tips
End of the Year Cleaning
I have placed the Year-End Cleaning Schedule on the Leadership Drive under the HACCP file. Please print out the schedule and start working on cleaning your kitchen for Year-End. The Year-End Schedule should be turned in with your HACCP Logs.
Unused Inventory
As the school year is winding down, please keep up with your unused inventory. Please add any unused inventory to the unused inventory spreadsheet on the leadership drive. This will be a useful tool for us over the summer as we go into our Summer Food Service Program to use up inventory.
Fun Fact:
Juneau, Alaska was named after my Great, Great, Great, Great, Grandfather Joe Juneau, a Gold Prospector. The capital was originally Harrisburg, but after a night of drinking with fellow miners he convinced them into changing the town name to Juneau.
Laura's Logic
Year End is upon us. Ashley and I are new at this, so between the two of us, we’ll try to make things run as smoothly as possible. Please be patient with us as we navigate through this together.
Thank you for making my transition to School Nutrition welcoming. I’m looking forward to learning more about this position along with learning more about all of you.
A big thank you to Ashley. Her knowledge from being a kitchen manager has been instrumental in assisting me with understanding how your kitchens function and affect my daily and monthly duties.
I hope you all have a wonderful summer!!
Fun Fact:
I grew up in Hobart. My childhood neighborhood friends are like my family. It was like growing up with 8+ moms, 25 siblings and about 4 sets of extra grandparents!! There was always someone to play with….and get in trouble with. They were the best friends anyone could ask for! Obviously over the years we’ve lost some, but to this day the rest of us are all still very close!!
Ashley's Advice
When turning in End of Year paperwork, please note we do NOT need any copies of production records that you make. We have all of the originals here in the office and that is sufficient :)
Fun Fact:
Our home in Michigan is in "The Magic Capital of the World, '' Colon, MI, and is home to Abbott's Magic Company, who is the world's largest producer of magic supplies!
