Hermann Elementary Bearcat Bulletin

Learn. Lead. Grow. Succeed. Together!

February 1, 2019

Tomorrow is Groundhog's Day! I hope that Mr. Groundhog knows that we've had enough winter weather recently! I am ready for spring, and it looks like some warmer weather will be here by the weekend. However, I bet winter isn't quite over; it's just the beginning of February! We can wish, can't we? In a few days, we will celebrate our 100th day of school! WOW! Think of all of the learning your child has done already in 100 days! I am excited to see what the next 70 days will bring here at HES!

Important Info.

School will not be in session on February 11 for Teacher Professional Development.

February 18 will be a make-up day for students!

Kindergarten Enrollment will take place on February 21-22. Call in week is scheduled for February 12-15. More information can be found later in this newsletter!

PTO will celebrate our teachers with Teacher Appreciation Week on February 25 through March 1!

All students entering the building after 8:10 must be signed in by an adult. Students arriving at this time are considered late to school. Thank you for your cooperation.

HES Yearbooks

Your child will be bringing home a form to order our Hermann Elementary Yearbook. Our picture company is asking that forms and payment be turned in by Friday, February 8. Please check your child's backpack for the forms. There is also an option to order online. Please note that yearbooks will be delivered at the beginning of the 2019-20 school year so we have time to capture more photos of our fun springtime events.

HES presents LEADERSHIP IN ACTION

Please join your child on February 18 for Leadership in Action Day! Your child will showcase his/her leadership skills, personal goals, and reading interests with you or another special guest! It is our hope that each student has someone to present to during their leadership time. If you have any questions, please contact the office! We are excited to show you the leadership capabilities of all students here at Hermann Elementary!

Mark Your Calendars--Enrollment Dates!

We have several important upcoming dates in February and March that I'd like to share with you that involve enrolling students at HES. Please share with any families that may be new to our school!

Kindergarten Enrollment for any child who will be age 5 before August 1st, 2019 will take place on February 21-22. Appointments can be made by calling the elementary school office during the week of February 12-15. All students who will attend Kindergarten must be enrolled at this time.

Enrollment for our Preschool program will take place on March 8 for students who will be age 4 before August 1st, 2019. The call in dates to schedule those appointments will be February 25-March 1. If you are interested in your child attending our preschool program, your child must be enrolled and screened on March 9. 3-year-olds will be screened on an individual basis by contacting our PAT department.

A note from Title One

With more than 70 school days remaining in our school year, there is still time to see growth in your child. The second semester is often the time of year when teachers and parents see the most change in their children. There are many ways you can help make sure your child reaches their full potential.

  • Check planners and backpacks daily.

  • Communicate with your child’s teacher. Changes in transportation, changes at home, questions about your child’s progress.

  • Read with your child a few times each week.

  • Practice math facts with your child a few times each week.

  • Talk to your child about their day. Ask them about the best thing that happened at school and the worst thing that happened at school.

  • Praise effort and growth.

  • Attend your child’s upcoming Leadership Day.

Thank you for all of your encouragement and support! Your involvement pays off!
