This coming Tuesday, January 10th from 7pm - 8:30pm we will be hosting our annual rising 9th Grade Parent Night. During this session we will meet with our incoming 9th grade families to provide information on high school routines, activities, graduation requirements, course choices and how to ease the transition from middle school to high school. The event will be hybrid with an in-person as well as virtual option. Please see the flyer linked in the newsletter for more information. If you are unable to make the event, a video recording of the event will be posted on the Winston Churchill High School webpage. Please note that due to a scheduling conflict we have changed the date of our Religious Diversity Forum from this Wednesday to the following Wednesday, January 18th at 7pm via Zoom. The purpose of the event is to hear about how your child's religious affiliation impacts their day to day experience at Winston Churchill High School. The information to join the Zoom is linked in the Culture and Equity discussions section of the newsletter.


The class of 2024 invites you to the Glow Dance on Saturday, January 21st from 8p-11p. Wear your neon clothing and join in on the annual tradition of a night filled with neon lights, DJ'd music, glow booth, and FUN. Light refreshments will be provided. Tickets are $15.75 and can be purchased through School Cash Online. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the door for $20. Contact Ms. Wilson, Ms. Young, or one of your officers with any questions.


Finally, we have a full week of athletics events for our Bulldog student athletes. Please see this week's athletics event schedule section of the newsletter for times and locations for our basketball, bocce, wresting, swimming, and indoor track events.

Culture and Equity Discussions!

At Winston Churchill High School we pride ourselves on the diversity of our students. Ensuring that all students and families have a positive experience while at Winston Churchill is very important to us! We recognize that students and families can have vastly different experiences based on a variety of factors. To help us gain insight and feedback we are hosting a series of culture and equity discussions various times throughout the remainder of this year.

As we end the 2nd marking period, we have noticed that many students have low or negative school lunch balances on their My School Bucks accounts. Please check your student’s account via the website at: https://www.myschoolbucks.com. Funds can be added

Reminder about Food Delivery

As the year has progressed, we have seen an increase in the number of food delivery vendors, such as UberEats, Grubhub, and DoorDash, being utilized to drop off food to students at school as well as to neighboring homes. Please remind students that the use of food delivery services is prohibited as it poses a safety and security concern.

Winter Sports - Spectator Expectations

»Students of the participating schools will be allowed to attend with a valid ticket and by presenting their student ID or Synergy verification of their schedule.

»All other school-aged spectators must be accompanied by an adult chaperone - this includes all elementary and middle school students and high school students from other schools - adult chaperones must stay and supervise students for the duration of their stay at the game.

» Spectators should expect to take additional time to gain entrance to events, as school IDs and enrollment are verified at the gate.

»Students and spectators must sit in the assigned sections of the stands during the course of the game. While there will be potential gatherings at halftime and postgame, large gatherings will not be allowed during the game.

» Backpacks are not allowed.

» Inappropriate and unruly behavior at athletic events may result in suspension from subsequent MCPS athletic activities

WCHS Midnight Writers, Churchill's student-run monthly literary magazine. Midnight Writers has been Churchill's unofficial monthly literary magazine since 2010, featuring student art and writing. Advanced Placement Testing and Course Information

If you have not registered/paid for your AP exams, you still have time! We are in the late registration window. Each exam will incur a $40.00 late fee. We will begin late registrations on December 1, 2022. We will leave the window open until March 1, 2022. The process for late registration is as follows:

  1. Please email Mr. Paskvan (Christopher.R.Paskvan@mcpsmd.net) on or after December 1 through March 1 to inform him of your intent to take the exams. Please share all of the information below:
    1. Name of Exam(s)
    1. Teacher if you take the course of the exam at Churchill.
    1. Method of Payment you will use - (Cash, Check, or Online). Students who attend another school will not have the option to pay online.
  1. Once you have communicated with Mr. Paskvan, he will add the exams to your SCO (school cash online) account.
  2. Please pay for your exams. Once you have paid for the exams, Mr. Paskvan will share join codes to register for the exam.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Paskvan.

School Cash Online Information (SCO)

MCPS transitioned to a new online payment system called SchoolCash Online (SCO) for school-related fees such as fundraisers, field trips, obligations, etc. (Please note that the new payment system is NOT related to school cafeteria accounts)


As of today, 79.06% of Churchill families have successfully registered on SchoolCash Online (SCO)! Registration takes just a few minutes, but a SCO Pin number is needed. This PIN number is different from the student ID Number. Help us get 100% of our Churchill families registered on SCO. If a SCO Pin number is still needed or you are having any difficulties, assistance is available. Please email Margretta_S_Canagarajah@mcpsmd.org or Lisa_L_Wellek@mcpsmd.org.

Important Senior Class Information - Class of 2023

All MCPS students must earn 75 SSL hours to graduate from high school. SSL forms (https://bit.ly/SSLReflection) should be submitted to the school’s SSL coordinator by the recommended due date of Friday, January 6, 2023, but no later than the required deadline of June 2, 2023. Please visit the Jostens website to order your cap and gown. If you need cap, gown, stole and tassel you will need to order the full package (it is the first one listed). If you ONLY need a stole and tassel you will need to order each one separately. Every graduate needs to have a cap, gown, stole and 2023 tassel. Don't delay prices go up at the end of January. The WCHS Counseling Department has exciting news to share that Raymond Doh will be joining us as our new College and Career Information Coordinator starting in early January. He brings with him an great deal of experience working with high school students in mentoring and guiding them. He will continue to wonderful programming that has come out of our College and Career Center providing our students with a wide array of information, experiences and access to opportunities both while in high school and beyond to ensure that every student has a plan to success. Raymond is very excited to join our community! While he gets settled in and navigates this new position, please know that you can always reach out to your student’s counselor for college and career information and advice.

Parking and Traffic Reminders for WCHS

Drop-Off and Pick-Up - Please be careful and respectful during drop off and pick up each day. MPD traffic division will be out issuing citations for illegal driving and parking. We have had incidents of rude behavior - and we ask everyone to model the civility and respect that we expect from our students!

Important Reminders - We strongly recommend that you plan to drop off your student(s) before 7:30 and pick them up after 2:40. Traffic congestion can be bad, especially as we head into colder weather and rainy or inclement weather. Please do not drop off your student in traffic on Gainsborough, Tuckerman or Victory - as this can lead to unsafe conditions.


Visitor Parking

We ask our visitors to use the NEW Visitor parking lot by the flagpole near the main entrance. Please do not park in the other lots as they are designated and assigned to specific staff and students.


Student Parking

Student parking is limited to seniors that have been approved for and picked up a parking permit. School permitted areas, which require the parking permit, include both the school lots and the surrounding streets. Any student who parks in the school lot or on the surrounding streets without an approved permit displayed may be subject to ticketing or towing. Seniors that have been approved, but have not yet picked up a parking permit, may not park at school until the permit has been received.

Community interest events and programs will be shared here for all of our families to know about opportunities for their students.
  • Once Upon A Prom will be hosting a prom dress giveaway at BCC HS on Friday, March 3, 2023, from 12:00 pm-6:00 pm.Once Upon A Prom (OUAP) is a BCC club dedicated to providing free prom dresses to any girls whose economic or personal circumstances create hardships in their lives. All dresses are new or very gently worn. We have over 2,000 dresses in our collection, in all sizes and styles. Our doors are open to everyone. No student ID is required for entry. Please click here to see the flier. Our mission is to ensure that prom is an inclusive event for all juniors and seniors. According to recent statistics, teens spend an average of $600-$800 on proms. The cost makes prom prohibitive for some teens. We want to ensure that this dream comes true for all students.


  • Zahra Yagana's Fundraiser for Hazara Victims of terrorist attacks in Afghanistan. Please click here for more information.


  • The Amplifier, Montgomery County's student-led magazine. Last year, came out with two editions: one in January and the other in June. The latter was 100 pages and had writing from students in 14 schools across Montgomery County. This year, our goal is to get involvement from all 26 Montgomery County high schools - including writers, artists, and editors. We would love to get your school involved, so please spread the word of this opportunity amongst your students. Attached is a flier with a QR code that directs students to a form for signing up to be a writer, editor, or artist for the Amplifier.

  • FalconVision Tutoring, is a student-run tutoring branch under the nonprofit Family Learning Solutions (FLS), and based in Poolesville High. As an organization, we’re dedicated to helping students succeed academically through direct sessions (online and free!) with our well-qualified tutors, over both the school year and/or summer. We always make sure to pair these tutors and students up based on subject-preference and unique learning style, so everyone can have the best experience. Ultimately, we hope to create a community of learners who can help one another overcome school-based challenges. As a high school, your students would be able to sign up as either a tutor or pupil with us, depending on what they hope to gain during their experience.   • George B Thomas Saturday School - Please click here to learn about the George B Thomas Saturday School information for the 2022-23 school year. This is a great way to get your student additional help and assistance from certified MCPS teaching staff who know and understand the curriculum requirements of their classes.

  • University of Maryland, Baltimore County’s Culture, Child, and Adolescent Development Lab is currently, recruiting for Project ARISE to understand the unique experiences of Asian American families since the COVID-19 outbreak. They are specifically recruiting Korean and Filipino parents and teens to participate in our project. Parents and teens will each complete a 30-40 minute survey and can also take part in interviews if they're interested. COVID SAFETY REMINDERS and 22-23 UPDATES FOR OUR COMMUNITY:


  • Do not come to school if sick. With COVID cases and variants still occurring, it is important to not report to school if your student has any signs of illness. In addition to the standard COVID symptoms (cough, fever, loss of taste and smell), signs of illness include: sore or scratchy throat, running nose, headache, chills and body aches. If your child has any of these symptoms, please keep them home until it can be confirmed they do not have COVID-19.

  • Wear an enhanced mask/face covering. All students and staff will be allowed to choose whether to wear a mask while in school. If you have concerns about exposure or immune levels, we recommend to wear a mask. In some cases, students returning from quarantine will be required to wear masks for certain periods. Masks will continue to be available on-site for those that need them.

  • Practice good hand and health hygiene. Wash hands frequently with soap and water, use hand sanitizer when soap and water is unavailable. Do not cough or sneeze around others or into your hands. Dispose of any tissue or items used for cough, sneezing or nasal use.

  • Vaccinate, and also get a Booster if you can. DHHS has now approved boosters for age 5 and up. You can find out more at the DHHS Vaccination Website: https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/covid19/vaccine/
