Owings Mills High School
Fall - Winter 2019/2020 Newsletter
Principal's Message
Greetings OMHS Families,
We have had a fantastic opening to the school year and have much to celebrate already. I want to thank parents, students, and staff for their roles in getting the year off to such a great start and showing your Eagle Pride in so many different ways. Just to share a few highlights:
- Kudos to our Student Government Association students, and many parents, for hosting a fabulous Spirit Week and Homecoming Dance.
- We share our Eagle Pride with Girls’ Varsity Soccer team who were recognized with BCPS Fall Sportsmanship Awards. The team is recognized by other BCPS Coaches and Officials for demonstrating strong character and integrity on the field. Way to go!
- Congratulations to members of the Girls’ Soccer team for their individual recognitions:
- Maritriny Galvez-Ceron – Named to the Senior All-Star Team
- Aureole Djoumejio – Named All-Division and All-County 2nd Team
- Trinity Whitted – Honorable Mention All-Division
- Good luck to our Eagle teams still alive in the playoffs: Varsity Football and Boys’ Soccer
If you haven’t gotten in on the excitement to this point, I encourage you to get involved; join our PTSA or Sports Boosters. Each organization does so much to support our students and staff. We value and appreciate your support. Mark your calendars for upcoming events to share in Eagle Pride:
- Distribution of Report Cards – Thursday, November 21st
- American Education Week – November 18-22
- We invite parents and grandparents to spend a day (or part of it) in the day of the life of a high school student. Despite what your child may tell you, parents do participate and enjoy the time they spend in school this week. You’re welcome to attend any day of the week at any time.
- Academic Planning & AP Night – Thursday, November 21st - 6:00 PM
Registration for the 2020-2021 school year is upon us and all students and their families are welcome to come learn about elective courses, completer programs, and Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Be sure to make an informed decision!
- Quarter 2 Interims Distributed – Friday, December 19th
- Winter Concerts:
o Guitar – Tuesday, December 10th at 7:00 PM in the Lecture Hall
o Band & Orchestra – Tuesday, December 17th at 6:00 PM in the Auditorium

Senior Portraits - Save the Dates!
October 23rd, 25th and November 1st
Appointment cards will be mailed home and will list the student’s scheduled appointment date and time. If you did not receive an appointment card or lost your appointment card please call Lifetouch at 1-800-445-1189.
DOES IT COST TO GET MY PORTRAITS TAKEN?
The sitting fees are detailed on the appointment card and vary depending on the level of sitting you choose.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
A drape and tuxedo will be provided for the yearbook portraits.
Boys should wear a T-shirt so they can easily slip on the tuxedo. Girls should wear a tank top for their drape. Girls unable to wear a drape for religious or cultural reasons should wear a long sleeved solid black shirt.
*Please note Cap & Gown will be provided if the sitting level you have selected includes it. If you select a sitting level that includes an additional outfit, casual looks work best; we encourage fun props, such as sports gear and musical instruments.
WHAT IF I CAN’T MAKE IT ON MY SCHEDULED DATE & TIME?
There will be make-up dates. If you are unable to make your originally scheduled date and time, you will be automatically rescheduled for one of the make-up dates – watch your mailbox for an appointment card with your new date and time.
If you are have not been photographed by the final make-up dates you may still schedule a studio appointment by calling 1-800-445-1189; however, you may run the risk of not being included in the yearbook. If you schedule a studio appointment past the final make-up dates you must contact your yearbook advisor as your school may have a very strict yearbook deadline.
