Egg Harbor Township High School
Week of May 14, 2023
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Dear EHTHS families,
We're already halfway through May, and the end of the school year is fast approaching. Time is flying, and we still have plenty to do before June 21.
Last Saturday, Camila Alfaro, Ryan Elyakoubi, Keion Ramirez-Elliot, Mr. Bryant, Ms. Delaney and Mr. Lesser participated in a students versus teacher game show called The ClassH-Room at the Fox 29 Studios in Philadelphia. The show will air in July, so stay tuned to see who really rules the classroom.
Congratulations to the Police Activities League of EHT and Atlantic County's FTC Robotics Team #7149, the ENFORCERS, on another successful FIRST Tech Challenge season. Senior Captains Kyle Tavarez and Matt Levine achieved remarkable accomplishments, including qualifying for the World Championship for five consecutive years, winning three NJ State Championships, and finishing second overall in the 2023 World Championship as a finalist for the INSPIRE award.
I'm thrilled to announce that Egg Harbor Township High School has two 2023 Old Grad Finalists this year. The Old Grad Award recognizes outstanding male and female senior athletes in Atlantic County who excel in multiple sports. DJ Germann and Anna Smith will attend a banquet at Great Bay Country Club, where they will be recognized alongside other finalists and a winner will be announced. Congratulations also to Sarah Rutledge, who has been recognized as our NJSIAA Scholar Honoree for academic and athletic success. Sarah will receive a $500 scholarship for her achievement.
Best of luck to our teams competing in playoffs this weekend. Today, the Softball team will face St. Joe in the Cape Atlantic League finals at home at 4 p.m. Tomorrow, the track teams will head to Stockton University for County Championships and the Crew team will compete in the Stotesbury Cup Regatta at the Schuylkill River. Finally, on Monday, the Golf team will compete in the Cape Atlantic League playoffs at Atlantic City Country Club and Unified Track will compete at Cedar Creek.
Our Academy of Law and Business students had some exciting experiences recently. Sophomores and juniors visited the Atlantic County Criminal Courthouse and observed sentencing hearings, while junior and senior students visited Rowan University's Small Business Venture Expo, where they had the opportunity to interact and network with young entrepreneurs and community members.
It's Quarterfinals week part II for EHT Idol. The Multicultural Club appreciates your continued support and encourages you to vote and post in your Google Classrooms. Please use the following link to vote: https://forms.gle/VaQmovcS5sWv3FZD9.
Our science class had some guest speakers visiting this week. The Environmental Science classes had the privilege of hosting watershed ambassadors for Atlantic County and Cape May County as guest speakers. The ambassadors brought samples of macroinvertebrates, and students had the opportunity to identify them using dichotomous keys. The Core Science classes had an exciting virtual guest speaker from NASA, Jerad Merbitz, who serves as the head liaison to SpaceX. He gave an inspiring presentation on space exploration and encouraged our students to dream big.
The EHTHS Orchestra, in coordination with Mr. Justices' Honors Animation class, delivered an amazing performance on Thursday night. Senior Jacob Stafford conducted the orchestra on an original composition. Well done to all the seniors and everyone involved! Tonight, we invite you to attend the Spring Choral Concert at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium.
Congratulations to Laine Elliot has been elected as the District Governor of Key Club for the State of New Jersey. In her new position, she will be responsible for the overall operations of the district board, train other district officers, appoint committees and assign directives, build and maintain relationships with other Kiwanis-family leadership and communicate district needs and desires to the international board liaison.
Interact is hosting a Pet Drive through May 26. They are collecting any new or unwanted items for all types of pets. All donations can be dropped off to the bin outside C209 and any questions can be sent to mirot@eht.k12.nj.us Additionally, I am thrilled to inform you that our proposed dog therapy program, P.A.W.S. (Pets Aiding in the Wellbeing of Students), has been approved by the Board. Over the next several months, we will gradually implement the program, which aims to enhance students' social and emotional well-being through positive interactions with certified therapy dogs. The presence of therapy dogs in our school environment can promote calmness, reduce stress and anxiety, increase social engagement, and improve self-esteem. We are excited to introduce Marty and Charlie to our staff and students. If you would like to learn more about our program, CLICK HERE. Please know, students will not be directly interacting with the dogs until they have been acquainted and have the permission slips signed.
Graduation is only 22 school days away. For more information, please visit https://sites.google.com/eht.k12.nj.us/ehthsgraduation/home. Our annual Project Graduation will take place the evening of graduation and we are still in need of volunteers to help make the event a success. The last day that Eagle Boutique will be accepting clothing donations for this school year will be May 26, 2023. #DAY 1
The High School will be continuing with this bullying-prevention program for this school year!
#DAY1--a staff and student-led philosophy that will serve to foster a building-wide atmosphere of kindness and inclusion.
This program was started a few years ago in Bergen County by the Tyler Clementi Foundation and has gained momentum throughout the state and country for use in schools, community groups, workplaces, and sports teams.
The premise is simple: the adults in the building make a “declaration statement” about behavior that is expected, as well as behavior that is unacceptable, and we all pledge to conduct ourselves accordingly. This includes seeking help when we witness unacceptable behavior occurring.
This notion is called being an #Upstander
Has your student taken their #Upstander Pledge yet?!?
Have them sign into their school account and click here! 😊
If you'd like more information on #Day1, please go to: https://tylerclementi.org/day1/
