Bulldog Bulletin
Elementary School- October, 2 2023
Hello HCS Families!
It is hard to believe that we are already almost a month into the school year! HCS elementary is growing stronger each day as we get to know one another, build strong relationships, and grow and learn together. A highlight from September was watching our students and staff participate in community building. Morning meeting is an engaging way to start the day and helps set our students up for success both socially and academically. Each morning, students and teachers gather together to interact in a purposeful way. I saw students greet their classmates, share feelings, listen with intent and ask questions to their peers, creating a sense of belonging and a strong classroom bond. It's proving to be an amazing way to start the day!
October has been designated Safety Month. Many of our practice fire drills and lockdown drills will occur this month. We have also invited the Richmond Fire Dept. to join us on the morning of October 11th when UPK-2nd grade students will receive a demonstration on fire safety and prevention. This event will be outside, so please remember to dress warm if needed. (And Thank you RFD!)
This month, we have three exciting events we will be offering to students. PTA is working hard to put together a Fall Dance as well as bring back our fantastic family fun Trunk or Treat event! And in tradition, we will also be hosting our Halloween Parade. Looking forward to these exciting opportunities!
Sincerely,
Natalie Pfluke
Dignity for All Students
At HCS, incidents of discrimination/harassment are taken very seriously. Please be sure to notify me or your child's teacher immediately to ensure that we are aware of the concern and are able to address, without delay, situations related to discrimination and/or harassment.
The Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) (§§10-18 of Education Law) defines harassment as the creation of a hostile environment by conduct or by verbal threats, intimidation or abuse that has or would have the effect of unreasonably and substantially interfering with a student’s educational performance, opportunities or benefits, or mental, emotional or physical well-being; or conduct, verbal threats, intimidation or abuse that reasonably causes or would reasonably be expected to cause a student to fear for his or her physical safety. The harassing behavior may be based on any characteristic, including but not limited to a person’s actual or perceived race, color, weight, national origin, ethnic group, religion, religious practice, disability, sex, sexual orientation, or gender (including gender identity and expression).
We have trained DASA coordinators at our schools who are available and able to support you and your family. If you need more information, please reach out to the elementary office at any time.
Thank you,
Natalie Pfluke

Attendance
Going to school regularly matters for your child’s success and achievement!
Consistent attendance in school is critical to student achievement. Let’s work together to make sure that your child does not fall behind this school year. Please ensure that your child attends school every day and also arrives on time so they benefit as much as possible from what is taught in the classroom.
Please let us know how we can work with you to ensure your child is here each and every day.
Thank you Rotary
We are also excited to bring back the Rotary Book a Month Give-away! Our first distribution took place the week of September 18th and every child was able to select a book of their choice. This year, each teacher will also select 10 books for their classroom libraries. Thank you to our Honeoye Rotarians for providing this opportunity to our children!
Sweethearts and Heroes Assembly
From Our School Based Prevention Educator
Hello Families,
Red Ribbon Week was created in tribute to fallen Drug Enforcement Agency Special Agent Enrique Camarena in 1985. If you are interested in learning more about him, you may click on this link https://www.wikipedia.org/, and type Red Ribbon Week in the search bar. It is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention awareness program! I even remember Red Ribbon Week from when I was in elementary school!
Honeoye Central Schools is celebrating Red Ribbon Week from October 23-October 31. The themes listed below are for all of our students, UPK-12:
