"You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream" -C.S. Lewis-
Greetings From Mr. Duckworth and Mr. Waller
It is with great pleasure I welcome you and your student to Craig Elementary. My name is David Duckworth, principal of Craig. Berin Waller is our assistant principal. Our enrollment for the current school year is 490 students. We have 65 staff members here to serve and educate our students.
At Craig, it is our privilege to teach, nurture, encourage, and enable your child to be a part of a community of life-long learners. We provide a safe environment where kids can take risks and feel valued, respected and encouraged. Craig is a diverse learning community where students, teachers, and families work together to support life-long learning.
Our dedicated faculty will challenge your child to achieve excellence. We strive to create a family atmosphere where parents will find a welcoming open door and know they are appreciated. We encourage your family to be involved at Craig, whether it is helping with the PTA or volunteering in your child’s classroom.
Once again, welcome to Craig Elementary School!

Moonlight’s Meals will continue for the 2018-2019 school year, but we need to restock the food pantry to prepare to meet the needs of our families. Moonlight’s Meals is a food assistance program for some of our Craig families. Craig School is a community that not only educates the children but cares for the families too! While you are shopping for school supplies could you purchase some food to donate to the Craig Community Food Pantry or donate Aldis gift cards? Food donations can be left in the collection can in the front hall way near the office. Gift cards or monetary donations can be given to the Craig main office.
These are the needed foods: Spaghetti Noodles, Pasta Sauce, Canned Chicken, Canned Tuna, Chicken Helper, Tuna Helper, Canned Pasta Meals (Chef Boyardee style), Mac and Cheese, Canned Fruit and Vegetables, Instant Mashed Potatoes, Bags of Rice, Boxes of Cereal, Boxes of Instant Oatmeal, Canned Soup, Plastic Jars of Applesauce, Peanut Butter and Jelly.
Thank you for any donation you are able to give!

Craig Elementary - Building Goals
- Learning for All
- Maintaining a Positive and Safe School Environment
We have three action teams working behind the scene to ensure we meet these goals. Each team meets once per month to analyze school data, monitor progress, research best practice, and plan professional development. The three action teams are: Trauma Informed, Character Education, and Diversity in Action. Each month we will provide an update of our journey in the Hoot Owl.
Diversity in Action
Trauma Informed
“Kids with trauma history don’t need more punishment, and quite frankly they don’t need more stickers.” Ross Greene
Sometimes it’s difficult to keep up with the fluctuating trends in education. Most of these changes push our thinking about what’s best for kids, but none more than the philosophy behind trauma informed care. Renowned author Ross Greene bluntly describes what kids with trauma history don’t need in the above quote. Dr. Greene goes into great detail however in many of his books and presentations about what these kids actually need in order to be successful.
Several Craig staff members were fortunate enough to attend the National Trauma Informed Care conference this summer. We attended sessions from some of the country’s leading experts and engaged in valuable dialogue about supporting students with trauma. We are excited to continue our learning throughout the year and plan on sharing this knowledge with our school community as well.
Character Corner
We are so very excited to welcome your child back to school at Craig Elementary! Character education is a foundational part of who we are as a school and we believe it is a critical component in your child’s educational journey. We think this quote sums up how we feel: “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all”-Aristotle. This year all of our character work including OWL families and community circles will focus on building positive relationships with peers. We will be working to respond to the emotions of others, think about how our actions impact our friends, and much more! Throughout the year we will be sharing a bit more of our learning as it relates to OWL families and community circle! One of the other big things we will be doing when we come back to school in August is our Learning to be More tour. This tour provides students to learn about our school-wide expectations and practice these in the various areas of our building. We hope throughout the year your child comes home and shares all of the great things happening in regards to character, but if you ever have any questions please feel to reach out the Character facilitator, Megan Gerberding by email or phone!
