- What am I going to do if students learn the concept? What am I going to do if they don't? You can find extensions, interventions, re-teach, and so much more with just a few clicks.
Math Updates:
- Investigations & Math Workshop are not optional. Janel used the "tight and loose" analogy to explain. The TIGHT expectation is that Investigations is the district's curriculum, and it is an expectation to use it as the main resource for guiding principles about TEACHING & LEARNING Mathematics in your classroom. This means it is NOT optional. However, it is LOOSE in how you will incorporate Investigations and supplemental materials to reach the specificity of the TEKs in your grade level. This is because you are the expert on the kids in your class. Your observations and formative assessments help you to guide the flow of lessons in your class. Do you need to reteach or have your students mastered the concept? Because every learner is unique, your class might need more or less time. You must incorporate both Investigations and Math Workshop in order to supplement. The purpose of the Math Workshop is to monitor student progress and spiral in material for mastery learning. You must add in additional resources to ensure you hit the specificity of the TEK. There are many additional resources on the Unit Overview Tabs in ForeThought. Click on the different tabs to find additional activities that are aligned with your curriculum.
- I have delivered any work books that I have. Please let me know if you need any more. Don't forget to save a master copy in case you need to make copies for students as needed.
- Financial Literacy Workbooks were delivered on 9/9 by Watch DOG dad, Mr. G. to math leads on each team.
- Currently we do not have a subscription to SumDog. If you would like, you can sign up for a free account to use with your class.
- Think Through Math - at this time TTM is no longer funded by the state. This would have to be a campus purchase. We discussed other intervention tools being used by campuses in the absence of TTM.
- (Kelley has ordered Lone Star Daily Rigor and Mentoring Minds Materials for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade).
- Wowzers is a website that was shared. Currently, there is a free trial until October if you are interested.
- We discussed the need for an math program or product for math intervention, and Janel is looking into the cost of different options. This would be a resource for students who need TIER 3 interventions in addition to the instruction provided by the classroom teacher.
RenStar Fidelity Check - (Some of this is different from previous years, but all elementary campuses are in alignment The following are just for MATH, not reading.)
Audio Support (available for math only)
1st Grade - all year
2nd Grade - BOY only
Math Helpers - (Per Janel) if students are allowed a resource or MATH HELPER on the STAAR it can be provided it for the RenSTAR. This doesn't necessarily mean small group or individual administration. Most students who have these accommodations are already identified as learners who need and receive additional support. The purpose of a universal screener is to identify additional students who may need monitored or interventions. Urgent & Intervention students will be re-tested shortly to monitor progress, but students who are already identified do not need additional progress monitoring unless requested by Melisa or Teresa.
Be AWESOME!
