Writing: For Writing this past week the students continued working on writing a narrative essay. The students began working on a final draft of one of their most memorable people or places. We continued reading The SOS File and Meow Means Mischief for super examples of narrative writing.

Reading:

We began discussing the importance of questioning while reading texts. We also started reading The Emperor's Egg. Ask your child what questions they had and have about penguins, while reading The Emperor's Egg.

The students worked in their reading centers, which included: read around the room, Top Ten List (this week's topic is Autumn), Word Work (synonyms), Listening Center, and Adverbs.

Social Studies

This week we discussed slavery, The Underground Railroad, The Civil War, Harriet Tubman, and Lincoln. Ask your child what was special about Harriet Tubman. What were some of things Abraham Lincoln did to make our country a better place?

Mathematics

This week in Math we worked on "Part, Part, Total", temperature, a "Change to" strategy. Mrs. Jennings-Schaffer explained an adding tens strategy. Ask your child how they can solve an equation such as 27 + 20 (or two more tens).

Second Step

This week in Second Step we worked on how we can be empathetic to others and recognizing empathy in others.
