Comments:
The race didn’t go quite as well as we would have liked today. We had expected Tonganoxie and Spring Hill to battle for the top 2 spots, but we expected to compete for 3rd a little better than we did today. Our normal time gaps were not as good as they usually are when measuring our 3rd, 4th, and 5th runners to our #1 runner. Those time gaps were all about 25-30 seconds more than normal and that allowed enough points to get in ahead of us to put Piper out of reach today. But, not to take anything away from Piper, they ran great today - better than they have run all season. So, hopefully a good week of training ahead of us and a healthy return of Kurtis McCormick who has been battling illness all week will get us on track at regionals next week. Congratulation to Cody Loganbill with a great PR run today and capturing Eudora’s only medal on his way to 1st team league honors. And, Jerratt and
Traeger rounded out our honors by grabbing 3rd team league honors. Senior Hayden Miller has really been coming on the last few weeks and today moved up to our 6th runner... might be just want we need heading to regionals next week. Freshman Aidan Miller had a great run today as well and picked will pick up our most improved runner of the week award by running a big 38 second PR.

Frontier League Champions!!!
I feel like I could just end my comments right there and that would be enough. But, up and down the roster the girls did so great today, I need to call out a few girls. First, Riley, Reagan, and Kate earned first team league honors. Reagan has been chasing sub 20 for a long time and finally broke through today. Kate also ran a great PR and really earned her first team honors as she had a girl from Spring Hill on her the entire last 1000m. Rachel Pratt gave a tremendous effort today pushing for the last varsity spot. She has been chasing it all season, every week getting closer and nearly got there today. It’s that kind of effort that is absolutely making the varsity team better and will play a huge role in how well we finish the season. Rachel, Liz, Stella, and the rest of the JV girls have absolutely made the varsity team better this season. Abby and Carlee had a great kick to the finish, both running solid 23:30s. Both girls would have made the top 7 varsity team of every other league school today. Freshman Ava Heide earned her first sub-club by breaking 25 minutes today for the first time. And, KJ, Chloe, and Ines ended their seasons by running over one minute PRs. It’s been a special season so far and I couldn’t be more proud to see so many of the girls end their seasons today by running so great.
Up Next...
The varsity teams will run next Saturday in Baldwin at the 4A regional meet. On the line is a trip to the state meet. To qualify for state, the team needs to finish in the top 3 at the regional meet. Individuals can also qualify if the team does not by placing in the top 10 or the top 5 non-team qualifiers. We hope to see everyone out there next week.

The Lady Cardinal Volleyball team hosted their 6th annual Cancer Awareness night against Ottawa on Tuesday! It was a great night of volleyball for the Cardinals, as they defeated the Cyclones in three sets 25-21, 25-21, 25-16. As a team, the ladies finished the night with 13 aces, 40 kills, 13 blocks and 44 digs! Senior Keagan Shockley finished her night with a match high of 20 kills. Awesome job ladies!!!
A match win for the Cardinals was not the only thing that we celebrated Tuesday night. The win over Ottawa was just the icing on the cake! The main focus of our night was giving back to individuals in our community battling cancer! Giving back to your community is one of the most valuable things a person can do. Past and present Cardinal volleyball players, parents and coaches worked hard to honor two beneficiaries that night. Our first beneficiary of the night was Don Durkin. Don Durkin is a Eudora Alumni, as well as a former teacher and coach in our district. Our second beneficiary was Nathan Young. He is the husband of EHS health careers teacher Danielle Young. Unfortunately, Nathan couldn’t be with us on Tuesday, but Danielle was present to accept our donation in his place.
I would like to acknowledge how awesome our Eudora community is. Our community has grown significantly over these last few years. It still amazes me that even though it continues to grow, we are fortunate enough to still have that small town feel. The local businesses in Eudora, as well as a few in Lawrence did not hesitate with offering donations to our wonderful cause. Donations such as raffle baskets, gift certificates, cinnamon rolls and cash donations to help us raise money for local families. The 2019 Cancer Awareness night was a huge success and the EHS Volleyball team would like to thank all that helped from the bottom of our hearts. With community support and hard work from the EHS volleyball family, we were able to raise over $4,000.00 dollars! Thank you again, for everyone’s support in this community service project!!!

The JV Lady Cards had an excellent showing last week against Mill Valley, Blue Valley West, and Ottawa. The Lady Cards played a very close game to three against Blue Valley West and Mill Valley, beating Mill Valley. Sophomore Taylor Hadl played great off block defense and took some aggressive swings scoring multiple points.
Sophomores Abby Watson and Mallory Vickers made large scoring runs and finished multiple games with aggressive serving and many aces. Sophomore Rylee Calhoon played consistent right side defense keeping many rallies alive until they could be won by the Lady Cards. The JV girls have had an incredible season which will come to a close a night. Please join us for Senior Night and the Varsity THIS Saturday at EHS as we host sub-state.

On Tuesday, October 15th, the Lady Cardinal Volleyball team hosted their annual Cancer Awareness Event. It was such an honor to play for friends, family, and community members who have dealt with or are dealing with cancer. The Lady Cardinal Freshmen played against the Ottaway Freshmen team at 4:30 to kick off the night. The first set was not an easy one. It was difficult for the team to keep the serve and unfortunately lost 10-25. This put fight in their blood and they came back out on the court with some amazing serves from Addie Woods and Bree Gabel. If it wasn't an ace serve we were able to get a kill from one of our middles, Sophia Sanchez or Josie Pickett. Makenzie Graves did a great job on defense and was able to dig up any attacks getting passed the blocks. Kambry Shockley worked hard to get to sets to each of the hitters including Brooklyn Thorne who had some nice saves at the net. Lady Cards took that set 25-22. Unfortunately, the third set didn't give them enough time to play their game and win the whole match. The ladies lost the third set 12-15. These freshmen are ready for their final game for the season against Tonganoxie. Let's go ladies!! Let's get one more W on that already amazing record!!
Varsity Soccer - Coach Erpelding
Last Thursday the varsity soccer team beat Ottawa in dominating fashion by the score of 3-0. The score doesn't quite indicate how much we dominated the game in every facet. We played with the energy and effort that we had been lacking in the last week. I think wearing the green shirts for Nathan Young and the boys playing for something bigger than themselves, made a difference. We did so many fantastic things. I asked the boys to be the aggressors and they were, I asked them to play fast and they did, I asked them to be creative and they were, I asked them to locked down defensively and they did. They did everything I asked of them before the game.
Junior Alex Kooken got us on the board first by putting his shot low and past the keeper. Junior Colby Lawhorn scored the second goal as the throw from Keaton bounced through. Colby headed the ball up and then volleyed a great shot into the back of the net. Fantastic goal! Junior Dylan Meier got our third with his right foot. Going from his right to left he hit a banger into the upper left 90 if you were facing the goal.
Junior Devon Moncrief recorded his first varsity shutout of his career and this is only our second on the season. Our backline of senior Brant Arnold, juniors Daniel Grosdidier, Dylan Meier, Dakota Heston (which was his first start), and Holden Andrews did a fantastic job of taking about anything they wanted to do away. Ottawa recorded 5 shots and Devon only had to make 1 save. Dakota got the start cause Isaac was on a college visit. He was nervous before the game but did everything Coach Dylan asked of him. It did not look like his first start!
We will wrap up the regular season Thursday at home for Senior Night against a very gritty Tonganoxie. The JV will kickoff at 4:30. We will have Senior Night between games and then we will start with the Varsity after warm ups.

Choir - Charity Concert Thursday 10/24
Come join us this Thursday, Oct. 24th, at 6:30 pm at the EHS PAC for our EHS Fall Concert! It's sure to be an evening of beautiful music, highlighting the talent and artistry of some incredible female composers!
This year we're teaming up with 100 Good Women, a local non-profit that supports folks in our community whose needs may have fallen through the cracks. Perhaps they don't qualify for social services, but they may have an immediate or one-time need. They've helped find musical instruments for children, driven people to their medical treatments, and furnished homes for people who are starting over after a disaster or personal complication.
As the holiday season approaches, 100 Good Women is looking for ways to support families and YOU can help. We'll have a collection set up for you to drop off things like lotions/soaps, $5-$10 Target or Wal-Mart gift cards, or simply make a free-will donation. There will be a representative for 100 Good Women at our concert if you'd like to learn more about how you can help in our area.
